It hadn't taken long to coerce Arnold from the stream he'd been fishing in. All Moist had done was drop down beside him and ruff up his ears and told him to find Annagovia and there was bacon in it for him at dinner.
Now, Arnold rounded the corner at a trot, barking at Duo happily, going over to stick his wet nose into his bangs.
Moist followed more slowly.
"Ah, I see," he said, walking over, hands shoved in his pockets, shoulders hunched. "When you said the Darcy build....I thought you actually meant the house you were building for Darcy. Not "random stretch of beach where there are precious few passers-by."" He toed Duo's foot with the tip of his sandal.
Duo had been turning away from Arnold's wet nose, which was the only conceivable explanation for how he let Moist get so close. He stood up with his usual jarring grace and shoved his hands in his pockets.
"Well, I stopped by there, anyway," he said, and then: "How'd it go?"

"She's well settled. I'm sure she's already found the tobacco. The clothing box will surely be bent to her will."
He rubbed the back of his head, eyes flicking to the ground.
"Annd...she hates me. Yes. That about sums it up."
