I do own it. It's a wonderful story. I actually liked OMEGA MAN, the 1970s film version with Charlton Heston, and I have my doubts about the new Will Smith version. We'll see.
The book has nothing to do with mutants or vampires or end of the world spectacle. It's a book about psychology. When you're the last man on Earth, horny, lonely, depressed, angry, why do you still fight to survive?
The central character, Neville, alternates between feeling drunkenly suicidal and what he percieves as his duty, the workmanlike killing of the mutated members of society that attack him nightly.
He's crumbling slowly as the plot moves on.
For having been written in 1954, the book has a very modern feel.
