Relatively unscathed and counting myself one of the incredibly lucky ones.My family around the city also safe. I am REALLY glad to hear you're safe--I was worried as soon as I saw it on the news!

Thanks, Sowelu. The news has some images which are pretty surreal up close, but myself and my family were not a part of those scenarios of brick houses falling apart or being flooded, even though my parents live right next to the river! So thankful for that.

Thanks, Teefers. Oh man, but here's a paragraph from an email I just sent to another friend in the US:

Our saving grace was the time and the day it happened. It was 4:35 am on a Saturday morning when most people would be at home asleep with their families; Less mass hysteria and trying to contact loved ones, no foot traffic or cars being driven where bricks fell across roads and footpaths, minimal tradesman, factory or shelving staff at work at that time... Any other day except Sunday, any earlier or any later, and there would've been a lot more tragedy in this story. So I'm counting our blessings and I'm sure we'll get through... We have food, electricity, and bottled water just in case.
