Clarification

Just in case it wasn't clear, the particular person who had the shoes thrown at his head is not what I was defending.
It is the office that I believe deserves respect.

Well, yeah, the office deserves respect but sometimes the people we elect to be in that office.....*shakes head* We need to have our head examined....:)

You gotta admit, Bush can duck. Those shoes were spot on for where OurPresidentialFace(tm) was. He did a nice job of ducking and weaving.

quack

At least the guy didn't bean him with a candy bar, as you once did to me.

You deserved it! It was a trivia for chocolate event. You answered a question correctly and I lobbed a reward in your direction.

That's just what I thought you meant. You said upfront how much you disapproved of the actions of that particular office-holder.

Or to put it another way, he may be a damned fool, but he's our damned fool.

Oh, yes, I understood you on that. But there's a major point (as I see it) in the fact that Mr. Bush has quite thoroughly demolished, in the eyes of most of the world, the sense of Respect properly due to the President and to the United States of America. Maybe we can regain most of it, but probably it'll take at least a generation to do this. As you may have gathered, I am not a happy person on this score.

I am glad you understood me. I happen to agree with you and I too, am not a happy camper. I don't see how anyone could be.
I *do* however have faith in US!
I think we can get through anything, hopefully the power of positive thought combined with a willingness to sacrifice and take action can help speed the healing of our nation. All we have left is hope after all.

Regrettably, I don't have faith in US. Moderate hope is the best I can muster. Oh, I think the American People are pretty much okay (albeit often too easily swayed by propaganda & psychological manipulation), but there seems to have been a (still-growing) disconnection between Us and The Government. Once something like that gets entrenched (and it has) it's really, really difficult to reverse. Clearly, the Obama Administration is going to try -- at least at first -- but it's not, IMHO, a simple Physics thing like applying energy to accelerate mass, and an equal amount of energy to brake it. And the strange role the mainstream Press/News Media seems to be playing isn't likely to help. But yes, there is room for cautious hope.

I admire your intelligence, however, I think that sometimes not being big of brain might be a comfort! It sure is for me! lol
*grin*
Cautiously optimistic is good though!
