I was not familiar with this, but man, it's fun! Good choice.

If you can't have fun with a terminal case of biliary thrombosis, what can you have fun with? Actually, "biliary thrombosis" doesn't exist. Thrombosis is a blood vessel obstruction, not a problem in the bile duct. The closest analogue is renal artery thrombosis, which can kill you. So the Gunn Brothers got as close to a real disease as they could without quite going over the line. Pretty darn clever, says I.

My vote goes to Amanda, Kelly, Tanner, Ogilvie, Engelberg, Lupus, and the rest of the (original) Bad News Bears.

Seriously considered. I couldn't quite say "Wow, I want to watch that again," so it didn't make the cut. But boy, were those kids good.

How recently have you watched it? I loved it as a kid, but when I watched it as an adult I loved it even more.

Not in the last twenty years. I'll give it another go.

As a side note, I can't let this column pass without noting the death of a very Bob Buss-like impresario, Malcolm McLaren. Though he aimed for the exact opposite of 2ge+her, McLaren's creation of UK punk rockers the Sex Pistols has to go down as the craftiest music-industry move of all time. He said recently, "I never thought the Sex Pistols would be any good. But it didn’t matter if they were bad."

McLaren also created some dynamite "solo" work, surrounding himself with singers and spoken-word actors who made him look much more talented. Here are four of his best works:
"Madame Butterfly", with Betty Ann White and Debbie Cole, from the classic rap-opera album Fans
"Deep in Vogue", with Willie Ninja
"Something's Jumpin' in Your Shirt", with Lisa Marie
"Paris Paris", with Catherine Deneuve

I'm not sure what your guidelines for nominees are, but I can't believe you didn't mention Catinca Untaru, who played Alexandria in "The Fall."

I can, since I've never heard of her or that. I will investigate.

She is brilliant, and it's a movie you should see, if only so you can share the same brain scarring I have.

A better recommendation I cannot imagine.
