Picking up from bad dreams over Christmas, yesterday I had an anxiety dream about missing a flight to Japan where I needed to go for my company (unlikely, but that's dreams). I don't think I AM that anxious about work, but now maybe my subconscious maps anxiety to my employer any time anxiety comes up in dreams now -- I'm behind on chores that ( Read more... )

I picked up one of the Cotterill books when I was in Laos, and went through the rest of the series after I got home. They wouldn't get my highest recommendation, but they're perfectly readable, which for me is a high recommendation.

Of interest: "All royalties from the sale of this book remain in Laos, at the wish of the author and his agents. In Laos these funds help support education in remote villages through the provision of scholarships to young Lao trainee teachers who undertake to return to their home villages to teach a new generation. Money raised from these books will also assist in the rehabilitation of bomb and bombie victims, and help in the promotion of Lao literacy among children."

Gorky Park was written by Martin Cruz Smith, published in 1981.

I saw the Gorky Park movie and read the sequel, Polar Star. IIRC the protagonist wanted to be a good cop in Gorky Park but was hampered by the system; however, in the second, he was no longer a cop and was hiding/working on a boat until someone there got murdered and he got drafted into the investigation. So that one sort of fits your theme, too.

I hope your anxious dreams are only intermittent at most.
