today i took henry to the vet for his yearly shots and found out some unsettling news:

he is really ten years old instead of sixthis, of course, is obviously speculation but is strongly supported by a medical observation. henry has the beginning stages of a certain type of age related cataracts that dachshunds get. i still love him, but that's ( Read more... )

It's weird that no other vet has said anything about it before.

But I get what you mean about shelters misleading people - we're convinced that Josephine is a bit older than they told us (I also think that they know more about her background than they told us, too but Jeremy thinks they don't).

yeah exactly- when i adopted henry they said he was 'surrendered due to separation anxiety' and that i am at least his 3rd owner. i'm sure they know more. his physical condition when i got home proves he was not taken care of properly so something else had to have been going on. either way, i love my little man and it makes me sad that shelters think that the only way to get dogs out of their facilities is to lie about their ages. he's the most spoiled dog i know so he really lucked out!

yeah, i think that is really poopy of them. unfortunately i guess there are not as many people willing to adopt older dogs?
