Alfred Nobbs - or Alastor Moody does Vera Bates repeatedly
Henceforth the local theatre that shows artsy films will have a nickname only known to the closest of my LJ Friends - the Brendan Gleeson Porno Shop.
In one film, "The Guard" he gives himself a grope while wearing Y fronts, and today's movie "Alfred Nobbs" had his head popping up from between the legs of Maria Doyle Kennedy's character, Mary. Truly, I thank the Cinema Gods that Michael Gambone dropped out of "Alfred Nobbs" as I'm assuming he was supposed to be the drunken doctor. Really, Michael Gambone giving a blow job on the big screen. Too much for me.
I actually had to look up the actress as I couldn't place her but I KNEW her eyes. Knew them. And I was right!

Janet McTeer stole the film. She and Bronagh Gallagher (as Cathleen) stole the movie. lock, stock and barrel, It was like Glenn Close who? And Janet McTeer's reveal... well, needless to say, there they were in all their glory.

My problems were
a) the character of Helen and Joe. Did nothing for me. Nothing. Nothing. Mia Wasikowska and Aaron Johnson... blah. Seriously.
b) Seriously, Hubert didn't strap and lock down the girls? I mean, really. How could not you NOT notice them? My Good God, they deserve their own credits.
c) how obvious was the scene where Hubert and Albert decide to get in touch with their inner girls? Very, very jarring. VERY jarring.

It really didn't work for me as it was akin to being hit in the head with a sledge hammer.
And I leave you with this thought. Brendan Gleeson is a sex God.
