"Act Two. On Hold, No One Can Hear You Scream. This American Life Senior Producer Julie Snyder found herself in a ten-month battle with her phone company (MCI Worldcom), which had overcharged her $946.36. She spent hours on hold, in a bureaucratic nowhere. No one seemed able to fix her problem, and there was no way she could make the company pay her back for all her lost time and aggravation. nice story. thanks for the link. julie sounds kind of like drew barrymore.

btw, isn't mci being bought up by verizon now?

it's not exactly like my situation, since i was basically at fault with verizon. but i did have to deal with a similar incident a couple years ago with earthlink. they decided to charge my card something like $50 for a service i never ordered. it took a few months, many levels of authority and supervision, and i wound up dealing with my bank, insurance company, staples, and earthlink before i got it settled. and even then, they refunded to the wrong credit card.

yes, verizon is buying mci. and sbs, i think, is buying att. and sprint is buying (has bought?) nextel(?). and i think there might be one other (qwest?) left to buy or be bought.

by coincidence, telephone charges are expected to go up next year.
