Over the weekend, Meaghan gave my mom a "book" she wrote and illustrated:
Translation: "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop Cross Country"
When I first saw this I was all set to be impressed, thinking she'd made the name up. But it turns out that
Penelope Pitstop is part of the retro-cartoon lineup over on
Boomerang, which is a Cartoon Network thing.
I'm kinda surprised that I've never heard of the show before, considering my many years of exposure to kids TV since well before Meaghan was born, but the stuff that pops up on Boomerang defies logic. And time.
Anyway, the point is that my niece has written fanfiction. Again. How much do I love that? I actually almost said so out loud, when Mom first showed me the book: "Meaghan wrote fanfic! Awesome!"
I am such a dork.
I especially love the first page:
Translation: "As we last saw Penelope she was parachuting when the Horrid Claw snipped the strings."
I'm not really sure what Penelope is saying there, but she's clearly lost something. And that seems like a
pretty good likeness, too.
(I was going to post her version of
Gary the Snail up here, versus
the original, but I think I've Auntie-gushed enough for one post.)
In other news, it snowed here, yesterday afternoon AND overnight. Didn't stick, of course - we'd already had too much rain - but I'm still freezing my ass off, same as I've been all winter. I'm starting to wonder if my blood is thinning or something, because cold weather never used to bother me like this. I feel like I've spent the last four months in a perpetual chill. My toes keep going numb.
And one week left until Spring Break. Well, four days, actually. I always used to think of vacation as a good thing, but one never knows anymore...
