Meet me at the picnic area, by the flamingos ...

Harry couldn't fault Elaine for being confused by his sudden early morning proposal. It had even take him by surprise, though, that didn't mean it hadn't been sincere. He didn't regret proposing and certainly was satisfied by the answer, but there had been room for improvement there and he still hadn't given her a proper ring after all ...

It was sort of the idea of lunch in the park, and sort of the idea of a picnic date, but what really got Elaine smiling was nothing more and less than the simple love, Harry at the bottom. Love. The idea of it made her smile. The idea of love with Harry made her glow.

She made it back to the apartment just in time to shower and change into something cool and suitable for outdoor weather before meeting him at the park, wondering what he had in mind

Harry had picked a nice shady table and was waiting in his usual garb. Tee-shirt, jeans, boots, but at least he had the good sense to take off the fedora and duster. Needless to say, he was a bit flushed from the heat ... yeah ... the heat ... that was it.

He idly watched the pink birds do their thing while he waited for Elaine to show up. Two lunch boxes placed side by side a New Kids on the Block one for her and a KISS one in front of him (You wouldn't believe how many second hand stores and garage sales searched through to find the retro lunch boxes).

The contents of Elane's lunch included:

One Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich.
One Red Delicious Apple.
One Bottle of 2% Milk.
One Hershey Bar.

And one special surprise tapped in its box to the inside lid of the lunch pail, off center so it wouldn't mush the sandwich, but where she would be sure to see it upon opening.

Elaine was beaming as she walked up, eyes widening a little at the sight of the lunchboxes. Nostalgia, the good kind, filled her with an aching start to joy.

"Hello you," she said, walking up and hugging him briefly. She was relatively cool in a pale blue spaghetti string top and simple knee-length tan skirt, hair swept up. Almost innocent. "Lunch?"

"Lunch." He said with a nod and he gestured to the unopened lunch box beside him. "Will you sit with me?"

Internally he was brimming with anticipation and anxiety. He tired to keep it cool though, he didn't want to seem so wound up that he ruined the surprise. He smiled in effort to hide the nerves but also because he in general smiled more when she was around.

"Glad you could make it."
