I had a jar of pitted cherries in the fridge that had been there for some time, so I figured I'd make up a clafoutis or something this week, so we wouldn't have to try and move them with us. does that mean you have a jar of maraschino cherry wine or something? alcoholic cherries?

A little of each, I think: cherry syrup wine and alcoholic cherries. The problem was that they weren't actual maraschino cherries (which, in fact, aren't actual maraschino cherries either; see here), but just "pitted cherries in syrup." So I probably shouldn't have assumed that they would last as long as maraschino cherries...
