held a focus group discussion last saturday, for my term paper (which is built like a mini-thesis). topic: the simulation of the female in anime. (as in, that baudrillard dude) the thesis statement: ...er? it's pretty much just a study on the animated film perfect blue (which is along the lines of psycho-mind-fuck-thriller)

ah yes, i have such fond memories of the first time i watched perfect blue...i was 14, i think. at the anime rental place, someone had recommended it to me. please keep in mind that i had been doing the usual ranma 1/2 and fate fury: the movie rent sort of thing.

and that was how my mind had been devirginized. savagely.

eeeee, i started with wind up bird chronicle :D it's still one of my faves, i think it's THE murakami book.

Wah! I wanted to be there, I really did, but my exam ended at 12 pm, and I'd been up until 4 am studying, so even if I did make it I would've been totally wasted.

It sounded like loads of fun. I really wish I had been there.

At the risk of turning this into study hour, why Baudrillard and not the other more traditional theorists on cinematic representation of women? Or will you be discussing it in terms of how Perfect Blue touches on IT as well? Anyway, we'll talk about this some time.

I saw that, by the way, after someone described it as a Hitchcockian anime. It reminds me more of Dario Argento though. Very good, but very grueling, at least for me.

I keep planning to do that meme, but I'm finding it so difficult. I keep on imposing rules for myself (no repeated items, i.e., only one CD, one movie on video, one book, etc.) until I ended up doing a list of twelve short stories I would put in an anthology so people will know what I like to read and how I view the world. And then I stopped, when I realized how pathetically nerdy that was.
