So on Sunday I noted a bit of pain in my gluteus maximus. There was a red area about the size of a quarter with a purple dot sized center on my right butt cheek. It kind of hurt to sit. By the time Tuesday came around it was almost impossible to sit. The purple area was bigger, about the size of dime, and the red area was about the size of a softball. So I went to the doctor on Wednesday. I was in the exam room and was describing the problem and the doctor thought it might be a boil. She asked to see it and I dropped my pants and she looked. "Oh my God", was what she said next. She said the purple area was necrotic tissue and that there is some kind of infection going on. She thought the best thing to do is cut it open and let it drain. So I got up on the table, she gave me a local and cut it open. She then proceeded to squeeze it to get some puss. She said only a little came out so she cut deeper and squeezed again. I didn't feel the cutting, but the squeezing brought a tear to my eye. She took a culture of what little puss there was and packed the wound with iodoform packing strip. Then bandaged it up. They wanted to leave the incision open so the wound would drain and I had to go back on Wednesday to have the packing removed. They took a blood sample to test for lyme disease. I was prescribed pain meds and Cephalexin - 1000mg a day. They went with a general skin antibiotic. So I went back today and my orignal physician was off, but I saw another doctor. She removed the bandage and packing and said that it did not look good. She worried that maybe it wasn't lyme disease but MRSA. I didn't like hearing that at all. I had just read an article about how they are finding MRSA in places outside the hospital like gyms. But she changed my prescription to something specific to Lyme disease. I'm now taking Doxycycline - 200mg a day. The results of the culture won't be back until Monday. I have to go back on Friday and they are changing the packing again. And if no improvement they may change the antibiotics for MRSA. I'm just hoping that they don't have to ambutate my ass. Hell, I work hard for this butt.
So needless to say I've been working from home. My boss asked me if I thought I would be in tomorrow. I told him that I could come in after the doctors appointment as sitting seems to be managable with the pain meds but after I told him they thought it could be MRSA he said that he doesn't want to see me in the office. I got a number for an infectous disease specialist and may call him tomorrow depending on how my appointment with my general pratitioner goes.
