I am a creator of a product... a product which I intend one day to polish and sophisticate enough to make marketable. That is, I plan on selling this product one day. There was a time in my life where I used to pirate everything. But you know what happened? I grew up. I grew a sense of responsibility for my own actions and a conscience. When I pirated software, music, games, ebooks, etc., I was stealing money directly from someone else's pocket and I could no longer abide by that.
These days, I look at data like everything else:
*If I need it and can afford it, I buy it.
**If I want it and can afford it, I might buy it.
*If I need/want it and can't afford it, I can live without it.
**In the case of software, I'll check and see if there's a FOSS alternative.
FOSS is an ever-growing phenomenon. If people FOSS instead of pirating, that's when real change will occur in the software industry.
