So. You're the guy Don's interested in.

[Robert is startled by this addendum to the "new-faces-he's-seeing-today" list.

... And that question makes it obvious that it's another turtle.]

... A-Ah. Yes, I am.

And you... are likely another of his brothers, if I am correct? [He honestly isn't sure at this point.]

[They're just popping out of the wood-work.]

I am. I'm Leonardo. [Formalities? Yup, Leo can do them.]

[Only Robert would not be bothered by the idea of giant mutant ninja turtles popping out of the woodwork.]

You probably already know my name, but I am Professor Robert Alexander Hastings. [Formalities make Robert a happy scientist nerd.]

Is there anything that you would like me to tell you about? [Because so far he's gotten questioning from the other brothers.]

[Unfortunately there's only four of them, so this is the last popping.]

Nice to meet you Professor. [Leo knew a nice professor. This is good.]

How about starting with telling me about who you are, and where you're from.

It is nice to meet you too, Leonardo. [Definitely a lot nicer than the first meeting with Raphael. Robert could stand to have more Leonardo-like meetings.]

Certainly. [Robert clears his throat a bit.] I am a certified astrobiologist of the Randi Institute of Terra; Terra being a multiversion of your own planet, from 2322 A.D., Standard Terran Years. Back on Terra I lived [... it feels weird to say that in the past-tense...] in a megatropolis by the name of Linden.

[Robert hopes that none of this will come off as anything disquieting to Leonardo.]

So you're from a futuristic world. [Considering the times he's dealt with going through time, it's not completely unbelievable.]

Is relations with beings that aren't human normal on Terra?

Quite so. My job as an astrobiologist puts me in regular contact with non-human sapients, and people such as yourself have occasionally made planet landings on Terra itself - though it is rare because of the distance involved and the likelihood of Terra's atmosphere presenting problems for species who have evolved in drastically different environments.

... Though, if you mean actual partnerships... They're less common, but aren't entirely unheard of. [There are mild social taboos around the idea - not enough to be accepted openly, usually, but enough to create some subtle social pressure that Robert is essentially oblivious to.]

Yeah, I've seen that myself. [He means about the atmosphere issues. Not to mention he's experienced them.]

[What world doesn't have social taboos? Especially over relationships.]

Is that what drew you to Donatello, or something else? [Now he's getting personal. He wants to know why the guys in love with his brother.]

I don't mean that love experiment. That was weeks ago.

[Robert... really doesn't mind the personal question, because Michelangelo asked something worse, and besides - it's not asked in a cruel way. But it still makes him a little shy.]

... Well, what primarily attracted me to your brother is his vast intellect. He is, frankly, a brilliant mind - and I can certainly empathize with his love of learning and teaching... [A pause, while Robert kind of knits his fingers together lightly.] His species is inconsequential to me - he is a wonderful person, regardless of anything else. Though that doesn't mean that I am oblivious to our species incongruity... on the contrary, I am aware of the fact that he likely has many physical and mental differences from myself.

[Robert adds, more philosophically...] But, that is not so much different from any other person I could be with, so it is hardly any issue. I just... hope that there is nothing problematic with it, for his sake.

[He listens intently. He sounded like he was telling the truth. But whether he could be trusted or not was yet to be seen.]

I hope there's no problems, either. [There's just a bit of a warning in there. Mess with his brother, you mess with him.]

[Voice] semper_cogitans March 11 2011, 04:30:36 UTC
[An understandable warning, though Robert had no intentions of messing with anybody.]

At any rate, Leonardo, sir... I mean no harm by any of this. I... never intended to be a bother to anybody. Just... I love him, and... well, I suppose the novelty of the whole situation made everything difficult for him... and, well, you and your other brothers as well, I would imagine. [Because, suddenly, Robert realizes - just vaguely - that this is affecting them too.]

[He's silent for a long moment. That was the one upside to Luceti. The village gave them options they didn't have back home. Nobody here gave a crap that they were giant mutant turtles.]

It's strange to us, because we're not used to it. Back home most humans were more inclined to run away screaming. Then to think about being in love with us. The ones that did accept us, either showed no interest or eventually left.

[Robert's voice is genuinely pained when he hears that.]

... I am sorry that your home world is populated with such barbarians as to be those who would not accept you. Clearly, they are short-sighted if they cannot see your obvious positive qualities.

Though... Donatello informed me of this, that your family is the only one of your subspecies, so to speak, there - and how this has affected others' perception of you. In my opinion, you and your family deserve respect, not vilification. [He sighs a little.]

... At least here there seem to be fewer imbeciles that would be so quick as to denounce you... But that you had to endure such discrimination at all is yet another demonstration of why pre-Terran humans are an embarrassment to homo sapiens sapiens.

[Nice big words Robert. Definitely reminding him of Don, when he gets into one of his scientific moods. His tone is firm. He's used to life back home, having lived it for sixteen plus years.]

Humans fear what they don't understand. At least in our world. [After the alien invasions, who can blame them?] To them we're monsters or aliens. Never stopped us from helping those that needed help. [A thankless job, but it didn't matter.]

Luceti, how ever, does give us more options.

[Robert is the king of pretentious diction. And tl;dr. And talking far too much in general.

But yes, Leonardo's words are very wise. And accurate.]

You are very noble. [And Robert means this. Helping people who hated you... that is noble.]

And... I suppose it does, in a way. At least people here seem to be... kinder, overall.
