[Sanji very nearly asks Robert what he's stuttering for, but at the last second changes his mind and answers some of the questions proper. Maybe he's in a talkative mood today.]

By virtue of being taken from my original world, it's hard not to be changed in some way.

[That would have been awkward. Robert's still anxious and uncomfortable about his stuttering, even if he's more-or-less used to the reactions it tends to garner...

Still, it's an entirely new voice - a person he's never spoken to before. That's always a little awkward for Robert, but he did invite open discussion.

That's one thing that has definitely changed about him.]

... Th-that is... certainly true. I suspect it... varies for all of us - some m-more than others - but... overall, we have all been impacted m-merely by taking us here.

... It becomes more pronounced with t-time, though... at least in my case.

Oh? How so? [It's merely curiosity's sake that leads to the question - and he follows up bluntly] Widen your horizons?

[At this, Robert nods a little to himself. Though that's... something of an understatement, in all honesty... but at the same time, it encapsulates it well enough.]

... C-Considering my viewpoint was... restricted before, I would... h-have to say so, yes.

[Terran culture did not allow for much in the way of broad mentalities.]

Hnn. [That's not something many people would admit to, actually. Sanji arches a brow and nods] One of the few things this damn place is good for.

[Slowly:] I... sh-should like to think that... it is a positive thing, but... but my world might not agree...

[And, jarringly, this puts him both ahead and behind of most Terrans, in a place he doesn't know how to get anywhere from.

It's a little frightening for someone so used to operating within a society that... basically agreed with him. Or rather, he agreed with it.]

Is that so...

[An entire world disagreeing with the principle of a broadened perspective, or at the very least, side-eyeing any principles they don't agree with...

It sounds like a cult.]

What's your world like?

[In some ways, the pervasive social pressure and almost mob-like mentality of Terrans, at times, could certainly echo the idea of a cult. It may not force you to follow its principles, but there is a lot to be said for the strength of collective disdain...]

... T-Terra is... a world that espouses the principles of... s-scientific discovery, logical thinking and... rationality. It is... a w-world that has moved away from violence, to the point where it is... s-seen as highly destructive in even small amounts...

[... His wording about his own world is shifting to a less positive one over time, he realizes.]

...

... It is... n-not a very diverse world, in terms of... culture...

--Oi oi, you're all pacifists? [Forgive his baffled expression. Sanji is a pirate -- which doesn't negate the existence of pacifists in his own world, but the rules of his planet are ones he's heard echoed in others': kill or be killed. Grow strong to survive. Violence is apart of nature and life.

The idea of an entire world collectively agreeing to shy away from this "truth", even in small amounts... it doesn't sound possible.]

[It's amazing (or rather, terrifying) what making something a taboo will do to it. Of course, that's not exactly a very healthy way to deal with violence... especialy considering that violent impulses are natural for humans.]

... Yes... b-before I came to Luceti, I... could not even c-conceive of the sort of violence present here..

Then this must've been one hell of a shitty eye-opener. [Sanji is not without some sympathy. Luceti can be an unforgiving teacher]

That what you meant about not being able to relate with your home anymore?

[Shitty eye-opener indeed. Watching Giles being murdered in cold blood in front of him... that was quite a good example of one.]

... Y-Yes.

...

M-Most Terrans would... c-call me a barbarian, now. Backwards, b-because of... of this place.

[And he knows the reasons why he made his decisions. He understands what is acceptable about them.

He just knows other Terrans could never understand... would never want to understand. Because to understand would mean to slip into the dark cracks...]

In... a-all honesty...

... Sometimes, I... r-regret, if only because it means I... will never be able to... f-fit in, anymore. Though that... w-was always difficult enough...

You're making the assumption that you'll remember any of this shit when you get back.

[Frankly] You won't. Not a damn thing.

[Robert flinches.]

... I... I kn-know, that if we are sent home against our will, then... w-we often forget.

... But... but I have always h-hoped we would find a way to return home of... our own accord... because there are those I have m-met here I would not wish to forget.

[Perhaps it's an idealistic fantasy, but...]
