There are many things that Robert never thought he would trust anybody enough to have again.
Love - the kind of intense, consuming romantic and erotic love that he has for this wonderfully
intelligent, mature, understanding turtle - is one of the most poignant of these. Don is
everything that Robert has ever wanted in a partner - his species doesn't even register (very
literally), and Robert recognizes that he and Don click better than he ever did with Benjamin, a
fact that surprises, but never fails to delight, the scientist. They've only "officially" been
together since the latter half of February, but Robert is devoted to Don to an almost ridiculous
degree... to the point it is, probably, genuinely unhealthy in some regards. (It's lucky for
Robert that Don, inept at relationships as he is, has never seen fit to take advantage of
this.)
Part of Robert, even now, is terrified that this relationship will be akin to a blue
supergiant star - beautiful and bright, but with a tiny lifespan and a sudden, violent end - and
he has done nearly everything in his power to stave off this imagined fate. Part of him, even
now, wishes the Malnosso had kept him a turtle for Don's sake, due to this perceived sense of
"failure" due to not being absolutely perfect for his partner. Practically everything Robert
does with Don is some attempt to better himself or better things for his partner, or some method
of expressing this complete devotion in some manner that might guarantee his lover not rejecting
him. Even Don consistently insisting that Robert is doing things right does not stop this
mentality that the turtle needs nothing less than obsessive perfection on his part... and what
little of Don's former life at home that he understands only exacerbates this protectiveness of
his partner.
Don is the only person in Luceti right now that knows the truth behind Robert's scars. He's
also the only person who Robert has talked openly about Benjamin with. This means he is privy to
aspects of Robert's life that Robert hasn't spoken about for half a decade, and is an incredible
display of trust on Robert's part that he's been too afraid to take with anybody else. (Don has
entrusted Robert with some fairly major parts of himself and his life in return.) The fact that
Don has consistently seen Robert at his worst (as with the recent almost-suicidal bout Robert
went through after the Kusanagi event) and still stuck around to help and comfort him only
serves to entrench Robert's love further.

After Don, Helios is arguably the most important person to Robert in Luceti. One of the three
people who've been in Robert's Luceti life consistently from the very first day he arrived
splayed in the snow, Helios has been a constant influence, helping to prevent Robert from
completely mentally going off the rails by providing concrete proof of the existence of magic
and explaining it in terms that Robert could rationalize. It probably helps that Helios reminds
Robert strongly of a Terran intellectual (even if he can be scatterbrained at times), albeit a
very unorthodox one with strange methods and stranger research subjects. After all, Robert can
recognize intelligence when he sees it, and Helios is genuinely intelligent, no matter
how strange an intelligence it is. And... well, Helios was the first person to call him a
friend. That will stay with Robert forever.
Robert sees Helios as a kind of enigma, in some ways. That smiling exterior could be hiding
almost anything, but Helios has never given Robert any real reason to doubt or fear him, and he
trusts the headmaster pretty damn strongly for someone that isn't Don. In fact, he has a similar
brand of obsessive feeling for him due to Helios' helpful friendliness and willingness to help
(repeatedly, such as when Robert was breaking down due to Vivi being sent home) - and more than
a little residual attraction, though he has mostly pushed these feelings aside in an effort to
not be offensive with them. Still, he wishes that he could be more open with Helios - and vice-
versa. Robert is dimly aware that many of the negative things Helios says about himself sound
just like how he describes his own perceived shortcomings, and he is just as adamant that they
do not exist as Helios is adamant that Robert's don't either.
Recent events have made things uncomfortable - Helios attempted to kill Robert due to a
myriad of odd twists during the AU event, and Giles' recent death during the Kusanagi event,
caused in part by Robert's ineptitude, sparked a vicious argument between them. Robert, of
course, is blaming himself as usual, and only wants to see his best friend willing to forgive
him for his failures and accept him again.

Ami is another one of the strong influences on Robert's Luceti life. The first person to show
him that fighting doesn't necessarily make one a barbarian, Ami manages to be a blend of soft,
gentle pacifistic intellectual doctor, and strong, determined, focused warrior. At first this
was a nearly impossible blend for Robert to rationalize - when he saw Ami as Sailor Mercury
during the draft in the latter February, and she tried to explain her senshi powers to him, he
pretty much shut down. This placed a massive strain on their relationship, and caused a very
quiet resentment on Ami's part as Robert inadvertantly asked some of the most painful questions
he could have asked, and in general seemed like he made Ami out as some kind of monster.
Now? Not so much. Robert has slowly come to understand that fighting doesn't need to define
a person even if it is a part of a person's life, and that his reflexive judgments of all
warriors as barbarians is patently false. With this understanding came a redefining of Ami's
role as a warrior. Now that Robert has friends that he feels genuinely protective towards, Ami's
desire to protect her friends and planet makes more sense to him. In general, Ami has reassumed
her position as the formal, gentle, patient doctor that Robert initially saw her as, even with
the new understanding of her fighting skills. And when Robert briefly got a taste of being able
to read social cues, he tried his best to communicate to Ami how he'd misunderstood. Happily,
this seems to have eased some of their tensions, and Robert hopes that he can be a truer friend
to Ami now that he has begun to appreciate her better. He still wants to get past that awkward
surface formality - though now, he's beginning to learn that this is as much part of Ami as it
is of him - and he wants to learn what makes her the Ami that he cares about so much.

Litchi is the third person who met Robert on his initial entrance to Luceti. A brilliant
trifecta of everything Robert idolizes (kind, intelligent, and open-minded) and both a doctor
and a scientist to boot, it is harder to get more important or more worthy of praises in
Robert's mind. The fact that Litchi has done some truly incredible things - such as facing down
Yuber to try to protect him - has only more firmly cemented this status. He will always be
grateful for how much she (and his other friends, for that matter) have gone out of her way to
help him.
At the same time, Robert realizes that he honestly doesn't know anywhere near as much about
Litchi as he would like, and vice-versa. It's not that he doesn't trust her - he has admitted
some fairly painful things to her - but he's simply never been in a position where he could
share anything deep with her. He's secretly afraid of how she will react if he does; he doesn't
want to lose her warm, loving presence or her brilliant insights, but he hopes that she will
stick around even if he tells her the less-savoury parts of himself. The fact that Litchi was
able to reveal some things that seemed difficult for her recently has given him a little more
confidence in this regard - that she feels he is worth trusting, and that he is somebody she can
come to for help too, not just the other way around.

Things started out pretty damn awkward with Giles. Robert first heard of him via Helios, as
somebody that the magician held in high esteem. Naturally, for somebody with such rejection
issues and such anxiety about having and keeping friends, Giles was somebody to envy: a person
who could fit with Helios better than Robert ever could. Still, Robert was determined that
somebody that Helios cared about was a good person... and then Giles ended up being somebody who
could fight and kill sapients and was in general capable of traumatizing him on a consistent
basis without trying.
But then the AU event happened, and for even that brief time, Robert felt like he'd known
Giles - or some kind of Giles - forever. No matter how tenuous this connection, it was
something, and it spurred Robert on to trying to make a more genuine attempt to be
friendly with Giles. This, plus Giles saving him from a quick death at the AU Helios' hands, and
Robert's burgeoning realization that being able to fight and kill doesn't immediately make you a
horrible person, means that he's lost his initial anxiety of Giles (though he still finds the
vampire-killing thing pretty disturbing...) and has come to trust him in his own right.
... And then Giles saved his life again, even more dramatically, during the Kusanagi event.
Though Robert still genuinely cannot understand why the ex-Watcher did this for him, an
unimportant friend, this is the major reason that has spurred Robert into wanting to defend
himself. Even if the notion still disturbs and frightens him, knowing people will die to protect
him when he won't do anything at all in return disturbs him even more. If he can prevent Giles,
or someone like him, from dying again... well, he wants to try, at the very least. And he will
never forget Giles' sacrifice... or the memory of his death, which is burned into his mind
forever.

On Terra, Mulder would be labelled as crazy, but in a world like Luceti with people coming from
vastly differing universes, his viewpoint starts making a lot more sense. This, and the fact
that Mulder is demonstrably intelligent, have helped to foster a friendship between the
skeptical scientist and the paranormal investigator. Their first meeting, amusingly enough,
occurred while Mulder was transformed into an Andalite - and Robert ended up stopping to marvel.
A better moment simply couldn't have occurred in that context.
Mulder has been a consistently helpful figure for Robert since they met - though the
unfortunate thing is that they usually end up talking during difficult moments for Robert, and
so Mulder ends up being the recipient of more than a few tears. The fact that Mulder has put up
with this with patience, respectfulness, and supportiveness has served to make him an important
figure to Robert. Robert only hopes that Mulder feels as though he can share his own problems
with Robert in return.
Mulder and Robert actually happen to make a pretty good research team. The fact that Mulder
is friendly with and respectful of Don means that Robert looks forward to the three of them
doing more research-type things in the future (such as the biodata analysis that they compiled
together using Robert's nanocomputer).

On first glance, Daisy is literally the last person that Robert could have ever expected to form
any kind of friendship with. And it's possible that, if the AU event hadn't happened, they never
would have. But during that time, the SPARTAN and the scientist were close enough in viewpoint
and mentality to form a close bond, and Robert didn't forget that when the event ended - it was
enough that, despite his fear, he sought her out for even a chance at restarting that
tenuous little connection. And it worked.
In many ways, they're almost yin and yang - opposing mindsets that somehow serve to balance
each other out. This could be because there simply haven't been many times where these
worldviews have actively clashed - they just seem to quietly tolerate each others'
idiosyncracies, for the most part, though Robert has admittedly found himself wondering on more
than one occasion. Still, the fact that Daisy and Robert tend to get along best during
experiments hints at the fact that they're more different than they are similar.
But opposites can attract, and Robert does genuinely like Daisy now - even if he is still
frightened of what her world must be like, to produce somebody like her. With his growing desire
to learn how to defend himself (mostly inspired by fear and a sense of obligation, to be fair),
he just might find himself calling her for those lessons in PE Theory.

Something about this little girl captured Robert's heart in a way that few other children have
ever managed to do. The intelligence and curiosity of Vivi is something that inspired him to
both be her father figure and to accept the possibility that he could be a positive influence in
somebody's life, enough to have a significant impact. Though Terrans rarely adopt until later in
life, Vivi made Robert seriously interested in the prospect of being a father, something that he
never would have considered before then.
Vivi was the first person who learned of Robert's drug history in Luceti, via a dream Robert
was having. Consequently, Robert was both ashamed and surprised by her love despite this obvious
failing of his. He is glad she was able to accept him - it gave him the courage to tell Don
later, and that set off chain reactions for his ability to accept trusting people and trying to
open up about himself. He will never forget this.
Though Robert misses Vivi intensely even now, he understands she is probably happier at
home, with her own mother... but this doesn't stop him from wishing, sometimes, that she was
back in Luceti with him, because she really felt like his daughter, if only for a
little while.

Ingrid, for all the discomfort she caused with her feelings for Robert - feelings that Robert
didn't reciprocate, but felt like, if things were less horribly uncomfortable for everybody
involved, might've possibly be able to - was a wonderful friend for Robert. She was bright and
eager to learn and willing to collaborate with him on studies, and for this he will be eternally
grateful. Her immunodeficiency made him frustrated and sad only in the sense that it is
completely and easily curable on Terra, and nothing he could have done for her in Luceti made
this easier for her.
His resolution to help Ingrid was put to the test - shortly before she left, she had
expressed a desire to remain out of her bubble for good until her death. While Robert wasn't
happy about this decision, he nonetheless tried to support it, and would have until the end. Of
course, Ingrid was sent home before this happened, so Robert never ended up having to experience
that eventuality. This is something he has extremely mixed feelings towards.
Luceti seems a little less intelligent without his geneticist friend... Robert hopes that
Ingrid's world will come out with the cure that Terra already has, one day, and that she will
become the wonderfully-capable geneticist that he knows she can be. He will always treasure his
memories of working together with her - and even though he knows Luceti isn't a good place for
her, he still hopes she will come back one day.
