[Ingrid barely sees Robert's post as she flips through the journal, worried that her survey won't go over well. What if nobody answers it? What if nothing useful can be gained from the data?

Oh, look! A distraction!]

Once it shows up, I'd be happy to display my tangibility device.

[Robert probably shares those worries himself. After all, he's the type to fret over things, and he helped Ingrid make the survey so it'd be partially his fault...

... Yay, distractions!]

I would be honoured to see the device in person, Ms. Grimmholtz. It sounds like a marvelous piece of technology... ... Magitechnology, perhaps?

[Saying that word brings up memories of the AU event.]

...

I love that term! I'll have to tell Papa about it when

[She cuts herself off, suddenly homesick.]

What sort of demonstration did you have in mind?

Whatever you would be comfortable with. I realize that it might be somewhat more complex in your case, though.

[After a thoughtful pause:] Which is why I had considered hosting this in the Battle Dome clinic, were that to not be problem for everybody involved. Though, if you have your device, you might feel more comfortable taking the demonstration outside.

[Outside is a place that Robert finds himself actually spending more time in, here. It's a shame that Ingrid is suddenly trapped inside the Battle Dome, as nice as all the technology is.]

[ What in the name of all the gods is that thing? Helios is just...staring in awe and partially like he's in over his head. He's laptops and the like, he's students do have them after all but it certainly doesn't look anything like that. ]

That...that's a nanocomputer then?

[Robert doesn't know whether he should be mildly amused by Helios' look, mildly irritated by it, or both.

He goes with neither right now.]

It is a kind of nanocomputer, yes. Standard-issue by the Head Institute of Terra.

[After he writes the last letter, he lets his fingers glide over the keys with a smooth, practised typing motion that is probably just as intimidating for Helios to watch as it would be intimidating for Robert to watch him draw sigils.

A simple holophotograph - just a picture of a stand of trees in Luceti - flickers to life above the screen. To Helios' eyes, it's as if a tiny miniaturized forest is suspended in the air above the nanocomputer.

Then Robert picks up his pen again.]

Though this is relatively low-resolution, it is a decent holophotograph.

[ It is a bit daunting. Did he say he wanted to learn more about this thing? Maybe he should rethink that because this totally foreign to him. All the same he's still also mildly curious. ]

That's fascinating. It's like a...a projection or cloaking spell. Making something appear out of thin air.

It is not quite out of thin air. Rather, it is a complex set of holographic projectors that essentially record the patterns of scattered light in the image to be taken as a recorded light field, and then project them as visible data.

Do projection spells work similarly? [As if Helios would know, but Robert is asking anyway.

He still thinks you can learn this, for the record.]

I didn't know that the Malnosso did favors like that. Did you do something for them first?

Admittedly, I did not. I simply contacted them with my request and described it to them.

I did encounter some resistance to the idea from Sir Catherine, though.

[Robert is honestly surprised that the Malnosso allowed it at all, really.]

Was there something you had wanted from the Malnosso yourself, Mr. Asato? It seems as though they have relatively-arbitrary reasonings behind what they allow villagers to have.

Please, you can call me Tsuzuki.

I was hoping for something from home, but I doubt they'd let me. Besides, I'd worry about repercussions.

As you wish, Tsuzuki. [Hey, he does it for Helios... though he's closer to Helios now, as well. But it's a preferred name; those are always the most ethical ones to use.]

Well, the nanocomputer I have is from home as well; truly, the only way to know for sure is to ask, because the Malnosso have few actual coherent rules.

Really, the only thing they seem to be adamant about is bulky transportation equipment or any method of getting outside the barrier.

[Wait... repercussions?] If I may ask, what do you mean by "repercussions"?

[ ... quelle surprise. Someone took her up on her offer after all. Secretly, she was hoping they would. Having watched the video portion with only vague curiosity, she defaults to a voice reply without thinking. Rather gently ]

Thank you... [By this point, Robert's probably speaking instead of writing anyway, since it's likely Don has woken up and left the room by now.

His tone is a little quivery still, but... he's noticeably trying to keep it calmer.]

Ah, w-well. I was wondering if perhaps it... might not be i-impossible to request that the Battle Dome clinic have an MRI and a PET scanner included amongst its technology...

... I feel that it would be... helpful for all the villagers.

[The way Robert is talking to Molly makes it obvious that he thinks Molly might actually care about this part... unlike most Malnosso.

Sentimental? Yes he is. Maybe he's misplacing his trust, but... but it's worth a shot, right?]

I understand... I d-do not mind waiting.

... It should hopefully not be necessary anytime soon. [As far as Robert would know, anyway.]

... Thank you for considering the request, at least.

... [Softer:] Is... everything alright for you, at the moment...?

[ Hughes is typically more inclined towards voice replies because, well, he's Hughes. BUT he does understand the need for quiet in this case. ]

Very interesting!

Ah, I am glad you think so, Mr. Hughes.

Would you be interested in a more direct demonstration at some point?

[So saying, Robert fiddles with his nanocomputer briefly, switching on a holophotograph for Hughes' benefit. It's another one of Luceti; just a peaceful shot of the square, but in three dimensions that make it look like an actual replica of Luceti is there instead of just a picture.]

And this is holophotography, here. Not the highest-resolution, but it works well enough for demonstration purposes.

[ That. Is fascinating and possibly the greatest thing he's ever seen. In fact, he is just going to pop back up and underline the "very" in "very interesting." ]

I might have to insist on a more direct demonstration sometime. We don't see anything quite like that back at home.

[Robert is kind of pleased that he's getting such a positive reception. It actually makes this whole being-social thing seem worthwhile.]

I would be glad to have you attend the demonstration, Mr. Hughes.

Is that so? What kind of technology does your world have, if I may ask?
