I think it might be Italy. I know I saw this exact picture on the Smithsonian Journeys page, but I am not positive which country. If you really want to know, go drool on the Smithsonian Journeys page (they are right up the line of an SCA person's perfect vacation since they give daily history lectures about what you will be seeing throughout the trip): http://www.smithsonianjourneys.org
I hunted around on that site for a while and couldn't find it. But then I noticed that there is a URL in small print in the bottom right of the picture. I was able to magnify it from the full size version using the Windows magnifier tool. It's www.kepguru.hu which looks like a site for desktop wallpaper, but I don't speak Hungarian so I can't make out most of the text. Thankfully if you click on Országok on the left hand side you get galleries labled with country names which are the often same or similar in English. This picture showed up in the India section (and is actually the thumbnail for the India section). You can even get it in a higher rez version.
I thought it looked rather Indian. Now of course the trick is to track down where in India. I don't think the site says, and if it does I can't understand it.
