Cell phones?

Apparently, I'm eligible for a phone upgrade this weekend (I thought it wasn't until Thanksgiving). I'm on my parents' Verizon family plan. I'm thinking of actually getting a smartphone, since right now I just have a regular cell phone, and at this point I seem to be the only person in the universe with a regular cell phone

I've never heard of a data plan costing $60 a month... we're paying $30 a month for unlimited text messages for all three numbers on our family plan, and $15-$30 a month each for my iPhone and my mom's iPhone. Maybe something similar is how it adds up to $60?
