Currently, I'm killing myself trying out a new technique for working up to yellow from light brown instead of the usual orange. I've ended up with a nice smooth finish - I'm playing around at the moment with multiple thinned layers of colour, which has given gorgeous result for the body armour of my Grey Aliens, WIP photos to follow at some point - but I'm not sure it was worth the effort.
Have you thought about using bubonic brown as a base? Thats a much more yellowy brown, but sufficiently dark (especially if you throw a sepia wash on it) to be a good base for yellow.

Is the standard a pre-moulded one with the details already on there or will you be free handing it?
