It takes more than pretty colours to make me get my brush out

Ron put up an interesting post on FTW earlier this week about his favourite Space Marine paint schemes: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011/06/my-top-five-favorite-paint-schemes.html

Unsurprisingly I happen to agree with his number one choice, but a few of his other choices surprised me and made me appreciate how few of the Marine chapters

I always thought the Dark Angel colour scheme change was a very odd retcon - basically they went green and the Salamanders were written out, which was odd because they were cool, and the Dark Angels only became so with the release of Deathwing...

Which is more odd, given that the Salamanders are a codex chapter included in the latest edition Space Marine's rule book and in the previous editions as well. The two green colour schemes are different as are the backgrounds and even the early 90s Salamander colour scheme was a variant of the pre-heresy scheme + green

Not so much written out - poor choice of words - as demoted to second string. And Deathwing never gave the impression of being pre-heresy to me, but perhaps I'm misremembering...

I'm not sure they ever were 1st tier, although I do prefer the pre-heresy salamander scheme.
