Maybe they were laughing at you because there was no other possibility. Honey, think of social psychology and conformity. The first person who started laughing is the one that you should be mad at. I'm sure people were just following lead. Or maybe, they were uncomfortable with your confession and did not know how to take it. Laughter is not only because something is funny, it is a form of communcation. Do you ever laugh during scary movies? I do. It is not because it is funny, I am nervous. Maybe they felt for you, but did not know another way to handle it. Or, they didn't know how to handle it, so they took the lead of someone else. Laughter.
I am sure they didn't realize what they werre doing; or how important this is to you. Come on, I know you are a smart kid. Think about this logically: Would your friends really laugh (as in funny, haha) at your misfortune?
*Insert counter-point leading into a logical discussion here* Well, It shows their character to follow the ones that were laughing instead of defending me doesnt it? To follow a tyrant, Though expected, is still evil in itself. (Not calling anyone a tyrant, Just refrencing it because it makes a good point) Though it may not actually BE funny, The act symbolizes a reaction to something comical. Which is still not good.
Also, I recall (Not sure how clearly) that Sarah and Nolan (The ones laughing) perhaps made a joke or two or a comment on how it was funny. Or maybe I asked them how it was funny and they responded with an answer that offended me. I dont really know, My memory of the entire event is now a little fuzzy so I could be talking out my ass but I do think that happened.
And if the others at the table really didnt like what they did to me, they could have just as easily scolded the ones laughing and others not doing anything and walked out to perhaps comfort me or some such thing.
I think you're pretty cool. You've always been there for me. You were one of the people who's always believed in me even when no one knew who I was. That Mr. Barkey I will never forget. Thanks for everything. You are a great kid.
Jordan, we didn't laugh to hurt you. And no offense to Nolan, but you know how hard it is not to laugh when you look at his face and he's laughing. I didn't mean to make you that upset. And I did think about following after you and trying to talk with you, but you seemed so mad that I thought it would be better to let you calm down. I do understand why you're mad and I really can't say anything in my defense other than I am sorry and I didn't mean to hurt you so badly, if at all.
I've noticed that you've seemed really upset lately, and I wondered what was wrong with you, but I had no idea that you were that upset. If I'd known I would have talked with you about it. I remember how everyone made your jr. high years awful and I know that I wasn't the best friend back then either(i had my share of issues as well). It's kind of a pity that we aren't hanging out that much at the moment (it's like we go through seasons or something, during one we're good friends, and for the next we're practically strangers) But if you told me this I promise i wouldn't laugh. Sometimes people keep their pain inside until they explode (remember me at lunch freshman year). And if it gets that bad, exploding sometimes is the only way to make everything feel better.
