Fic Rec Friday: Resurrection
Hi there! So...no one uses LJ anymore, amirite?
Yeeeeah.....
As it's still Friday on the Pacific Coast for another two and a half hours, I can still call it Fic Rec Friday as I try to breath life into LJ one tiny comment at a time. :)
Eat You for Breakfast by vayshti
Pairing: Renji/Grimmjow (...look, my tagline for my journal says "Bleach's #1 Crackshipper" for good reason)
Rating:NC-17 towards the end
Why I love this: Crack =/= silliness, and this is the epitome of that. The premise is that Renji saves Grimm from certain death and the latter is taken back to Soul Society to recooperate, but does an excellent job to developing Grimmjow as a guy with his own set of morals (such as they are) and developing Renji as the type of guy that wants to do the right things, even if he finds that to be at odds with Soul Society--which, let's face it, is kinda fucked up.
What you Wish For by Jubilee3/ starvinbohemian (unedited versions of chapters 4 and 7 can be found on her journal)
Pairing/Characters: Rukia/Returned from the dead!Kaien (which I think sums up the premise of the fic nicely)
Rating: NC-17
Why I Love It: I'm surprised it took till 2010 for someone to write the "What if Kaien returned from the dead?" premise, but then again, even garden variety KaiRuki is a difficult sale for most writers without going AU or pretending Miyako doesn't exist (which, no). This one manages to hit upon all of that, with the added complication of this affecting her interactions with nearly all her other friends, notably Ichigo for obvious reason. She also begins her own decent down the rabbit hole trying to figure out what's real and what isn't, and it's all so beautifully done.
And the smut! <3
WARNiNG: It's incomplete, sadly, but the AO3 version says there's two chapters left to go. SO...hope...?
Do You Even Bleach? by Hellfire Superemcy
Characters: Ichigo, Isshin
Rating: PG/T
Why I Love It: Because ever once in a while, fanfic exists to fill in some very obvious plotholes and not for characters to fill one another's holes. ;) And This very wonderful crackfic fills out the premise of what would have happened had Isshin just laid out all the cards for poor Ichigo when all the stuff first began. But no one in the Kurosaki family explains things to each other because reasons. ^_^
And now, to maybe get some sleep for the first time in God knows when. Navy workhours suck.
