FF.net has started their own "purge"

I was doing my daily haunts in Tumblr, when I came across with this:

"News:June 4th 2012 -- Notices:
  • Please note we would like to clarify the content policy we have in place since 2002. FanFiction.Net follows the Fiction Rating system ranging from Fiction K to Fiction M. Although Fiction Ratings goes up to Fiction MA, FanFiction.Net since 2002 has ( Read more... )

This is why I <3 ArchiveOfOurOwn (aside from all the ways its such a better side) - it fesses up to the porn that is the majority of fandom and is perfectly happy to host all of it.

FF.Net has always made a stink about how they don't host MA content... when that's the majority of their content. I had one fanfic flagged over the weekend (out of 190+, the vast majority of which are pron) but that seems to be the extent of it so far. Whether they'll report more remains to be seen, but if they do, it's only going to hurt them. They're not the only big fish in the sea anymore, and if they take down all the MA fanfics... well, then people are just going to stop using their site.

Hear hear! Maybe I ought to also go there, too.

This just annoys me very much because I happen to like FF.net. It's easy for the eyes, you can sort out what characters/ratings/types of fiction you prefer and not without much of a hassle, plus it's old, which means there's tons of good fanfiction even back from 2002. :(

Yes, FF.net is no longer the only big fish there but if it goes down, it'll be one hell of a job to find all those stories again. Just thinking about having to search my easily 200+ favorite fanfictions all over again makes my head hurt.

I seriously hope they'll just stop being such hypocrites and cease this purge of theirs before it'll come back and bites them in the ass.

Edit; And what's with this new we-show-your-icon-and-the-whole-damn-summary-in-every-chapter?! I mean, it looked nice, when you watch the archives but did they seriously had to change it like that?! Or am I just still so miffed that everything new just annoys me even more? Most likely. XD

I've always found FF.Net to be harder to use. I mean, you can sort by fandom and characters but it's hard to search for a specific pairing, like you can on AO3. Though, honestly, I haven't read much on FF.Net, usually only stuff people rec. Most of my fanfic reading lately has been on my Nook, which is why AO3 is so much more convenient since you can download fics in Nook format from there.

Thanks for the heads up I just grabbed all the fan fics in my favorites (only 20) before they purge them just about all were MA sad that they’re taking this approach to MA fiction it would be so much smarter to put a warning system on those fictions or only let 18+ view MA fiction.
