Well, I finally, finally got to watch the Mebius Gaiden. I don't have much to say now, but I'm going to write a few (spoilers) thoughts down before I forget what I want to say...
So is this a Kanata Haruzaki show instead of Mebius? Not that I should begrudge that, though, since if I want to see plenty of Mebius, I can always go back to watch the original TV series. And, actually, I very much like Haruzaki. I was prepared to not like him on principle (well, who was he, anyway? Give me the crew I know any day), but I believe I'm charmed. He could have been Mirai 2 if done right. In fact, I think he seems to be well on the way already. (Not that I want a Mirai clone; just someone who has most of the same characteristics I adore in Mirai.)
(And please, CDjapan, Ultraman King only appears in the ED (and the preview), not in the episode itself. Talk about false advertising me selfishly expecting more accurate information...)
What exactly happened to Ryuu anyway? Was he sent to yet another dimension? He appears in front of Ultraman King (or is it the other way around?) in the preview for the next stage.
I don't know what's with my recognition skills lately. I actually thought Haruzaki was Mirai for a moment, when he was about to pick up the charm Mirai gave Ryuu. But their hairstyles seem similar to me, and the way I love, even though it doesn't seem as unique (for lack of a better word) as the ones Mirai wears during the TV series. I'm probably subconsciously thinking "Mirai 2" again.
Speaking of hairstyles, I don't know what to think of Sakomizu's. It's not as bad as I expected, but now Sako looks the same as most other people. I wouldn't be able to pick him out so quick from a crowd anymore.
The actress for Misaki seemed like she could have come straight from UltraSeven X set (or was it the other way around? I really have no idea when the gaiden was filmed). And that led me to speculate about hair in general. As far as I've seen, the Ultra series, when they do sequels or new stories, they don't attempt to keep the hairstyles of the recurring characters the same at all, even in rare occasions when they should, because sometimes an original made-for-dvd video is actually taking place during the original series.
I'm glad to see everyone back, of course, even with the new hairstyles. I actually like Teppei's a lot.
In the end, I'm going to be realistic and don't expect much on the old crew's interactions. This really does seem to focus heavily on Haruzaki, after all. But at this rate, I expect him to be set up with his own show already.
EDIT: Looking for torrent? It's in
this entry (just ignore my silly comment there).
