Punching through ramshackle weeks.

The way my catalogue of possible actions here in Gainesville is diminishing bothers me (I like things to be presented well even if they aren't pleasant). I hate how I haven't had time for anything this summer, though now that my sister has school it should be better. I have two weeks left at work; it occurs to me that I meant to post about the ( Read more... )

I've probably told you repeatedly, but I really, really think you should get a computer.

Yeah. Foreign languages are tricky. One strategy I heard that sounded interesting was finishing all your credits a little early, then taking a "leave of absence" for a semester and going to Europe or whatever for much cheaper. (I still really want to do German. Bah. :P)

lol. I'm glad to see that you think doctors are still useful. I actually finished Travels recently, and I loved his stories, but I'm kinda creeped out by his philandering and bad habits. Alas.

Psh, it's not like I'm attached to it by my life force or anything. I hope you get to take German someday soon! You should do one of Brown's semester programs in Germany and take intensive German then. I would think you'd be able to carve out a semester at least.

well, where are you living? if it's snitchcock or max p or someplace, not having a computer won't be so bad, but if you're in the shoreland or blackstone or broadview, somewhere out in the eastern wasteland, you'll probably die. i only lasted until thanksgiving before buying a laptop.

i forget if you get to meet with your advisor during o-week? if so, you can hit him/her with your AP score questions, because yeah. they don't make things very clear. anyway, good luck with choosing classes and everything! we can always meet up for football watching and all that, so :D.

Eastern wasteland, ha ha ha. I'm in the Shoreland. Which I didn't exactly expect, but I've posted about that too often already. Have you ever lived there?

As for the computer thing, I've been asking around uchicago/Facebook and the consensus is that it's feasible to fairly easy, although I might cave and buy something really cheap. We do meet with our adviser at orientation, though apparently they contact you before that now (I just really want to know whether or not I need to take physical sciences so that I can figure out when to meet all the general education requirements!). I would love to meet up once we're in the same city.

Wow, thank you so much. People have been so helpful, it's kind of embarrassing, really. I'm going to go ahead and friend you on Facebook, if you don't mind- so you know who that random person is- since I'm sure I'll have questions as time goes on.

For the math, I'll have to take more than just the core requirement for the majors I'm thinking about anyway, so I'm not too concerned about that. I do wish Chicago had their placement tests online during the summer, the way some schools do, because it bugs me not knowing for sure, but as you said there are only a few weeks left anyway. Someone said on a Facebook group a while back that our advisors are supposed to contact us for questions before o-week, and I hope that happens this year, and soon!
