GREGORY DORAN on Tennant playing Richard II:

"The artistic director said the principal challenge for Tennant’s Richard II will be “the sense of the man’s volatility, fragility; that psychology is more alien to David’s character”Mr Doran, I have only three words to say to you ( Read more... )

Let's hope DT has left romcoms and ridiculous remakes of cult horror movies well behind him.

Enjoy the play! I'll be looking forward to your review!

Oh, word to that! He's been in so much drek lately (Nativity 2, anyone?) I was beginning to despair of him.

However, he has been doing some good telly lately. I think Spies of Warsaw will be worth a look.

Well, I guess he had to pay the bills somehow.

Tim Roth has said as much regarding some of his own questionable earlier films. I'm guessing all actors have done so at one time or another during their careers. You want to stay working and you need a paycheck.

OMGOMGOMG!

Slightly mad thought: were you going to go for the top-of-the-range £100 Shakespeare's Circle thing? (I am struggling to justify it, but not sure given the potential buzz if even the £40 priority will be sufficient...)

If so, (or even indeed for the £40 job) would you be at all interested in splitting the cost and then getting me some tickets, if I gave you date preferences etc? Despite only being in Oxford I manage to get to Stratford shamefully rarely, given small people etc, so would be quite happy to leave the priority membership in your hands after booking DT!

I can't do anything until payday on Friday, but then I'm going to call them and ask if they will upgrade my Associate membership to Full. I'm not going for the Shakespeare's Circle, I think that's overkill. Anyway, do give me your date prefs - I'm fairly open on dates at this stage, and I'll see what I can do.

I remember going down to the National on the day to get His Dark Materials tickets - they were insanely hot at the time - and I got in for both parts. In fact, for the second, I wound up right in the plum seats in the stalls. I suspect they always hold back the odd few, at least in London, just in case royalty or the PM fancy a seat.

I'm ridiculously excited for this. It was one of my A-Level texts and is definitely in my Top Five Shakespeare Plays.
