He wanted to be able to do that. She'd be nowhere and then slink from the shadows with a tilt of her head and a wicked smirk. He had his eye on teleportation for some time now, but this, this was an entirely different animal. That was pure power. Pulling herself through the ether of the world and slipping right into the darkest parts.
Hidden.
He wanted that.
She'd walk in from the corner of the room, her own personal doorway, the click of her heels echoing against the hardwood floors of the room.
"Really, you need to find better places to dwell. I mean, this? Not exactly The Ritz." Ruby let her finger drag against the mildew covered window sill.
"So, whose house is it?" Turning around she spotted the woman, "Oh. Hers."
He tilted his head, looking at the lifeless corpse, having seen those last true moments of hope in her eyes before she was gone. The light in her just a flicker before it was nothing. She had cursed at him before her demise. He was positive it was an actual curse though and having no real notion of the world that could do that he called the one person he knew did.
"What'd the hag say?"
He missed his memory. If he'd still had that in it's proper place in himself, he'd have just rattled it off in the original Latin. Now he was regiled to using a post-it note. He flicked it off the edge of the wall where he'd stuck it.
"Here."
"No... small talk? No... 'Gee, Ruby thanks for coming and possibly saving my-" Ruby glanced to the Post-It. "Huh."
"Saving my... huh?"
"Sorry, I was going to make some reference to your ass, but - you're sure this is what she said?"
He nodded.
Ruby smirked, lifting a sculpted eyebrow that she spent far too long in the mirror trying to even up. "Interesting."
He huffed in annoyance. She always did this. Drawing things out, making him wait, and she knew how much it pissed him off. His eyes trailed her, watching her move through the front room, looking for something in particular that he wasn't sure of yet.
"What are you looking for?"
Her finger lifted for him to wait - or to shut up, which he wasn't planning on doing.
Her toe kicked to the wall, a small corner of a piece of wood paneling, causing a small creak of sound. Her fingers glided along the wall, until she found the small divide, tugging with the pads of her fingertips she yanked the wall open, revealing a small room.
"Oh... this..." Ruby took in a deep breath, the incense, the varied herbs and oils all laying about the room. She could see artifacts that she had sworn had been destroyed ages ago. Taking an unneeded breath, her hands ran down her body, glancing over her shoulder to Sylar with a slow bite drawing over her bottom lip.
After a moment she spoke, "How'd you find her again?"
"I was testing something. She was the hotspot that my test gave me."
"Mmm... yeah, she's a hotspot alright." Ruby crooked her finger toward him, beckoning him into the den of the witch.
"Idolatry charm. Hexing Box, Minxs Blood - actually illegal now in this state. Some crazy no horses after three type law, but still... it's a law."
She paced the room, her fingers lightly touching most the objects in the room, "You could have yourself a lot of fun with this room. You wouldn't even need me as a tour guide, that magic touch of yours would show you exactly what each item has done and then that would be yours do to whatever you like with."
His smirk grew a bit more wicked as he looked at her from under a darkened gaze.
Ruby smirked over at him, moving to lean against the makeshift workbench, hearing the slight clink of the mortor and pestal shifting on top when her weight moved it. "You really do like all this stuff don't you. The art of it all."
"It's smoke and mirrors."
"It's seductive. It's a darker brand of power that can't be just taken from someone, you have to learn it, you have to be able to use it just right. You can't just slice and keep, you've got to work at it and for once you've got an actual challenge when it comes to making something out of nothing."
Pushing off the bench she moved toward him, sharing this dance with him for the past six months, she'd been showing him all sorts of things. Ruby let her hands graze down against his sides, dragging her touch slowly as his breath shuddered in his lungs, until her hands circled to press against his jeans, feeling him already half hard from just the slight moment of attention to his sides.
"Speaking of an actual challenge," she chided up at him. "Are we ever going to actually do this? Or am I just the one trick pony that shows up and fixes your fuck-ups when you get in over your head?"
His hand moved quickly, tangling up into her hair and tugging her head back hard. All she did was laugh. Her eyes meeting his with an almost dare behind them. He could kill her. He could pull her right out of this girl and she'd have to go find somewhere else to play.
As he held her by the hair his eyes scanned over the items in the room, "Did she curse me?"
Her laughter slowed, just enough to reply as her hand skimmed back up his side, "Nope. She wished you luck in finding your path. She knew. She could feel the power in you from the moment you walked in the door." Ruby's laughter started up again, "You're gonna be big news one day. Until that day though, you could just be a name off my lips."
His fingers wound tighter in her hair, wrapping it around his fist, stirring a broken gasp from her as he pulled her close, "You'd like that wouldn't you."
With the grip so tight in her hair all she could manage to do was nod her head with a slight motion, feeling her scalp taut as she moved her head. She wasn't going to beg, she really had better things to do, but she wanted him. She wanted him more than she wanted the Idolatry Charm sitting on that bench. The please was on her lips, but she wouldn't let go of it.
Instead he loosened his grip on her hair, sending her stance staggering a bit. Moving to run his hand across the bench, dropping everything into a wooden crate that had been on the floor.
Ruby let her fingers run through her hair, trying to untangle the damage he'd done to it. Let down by the fact that was all he was putting his fingers into. Her hand pressed to the makeshift door, watching him move with purpose through the small room.
"What are you going to do now?"
"Find another hotspot."
"You'll summon me when you do?"
"Don't I always?"
Ruby nodded. Moving out of the room and toward the window. Glancing out onto the street she saw the porchlights turn on, automatic timers doing their best to make people feel safe. Turning around she watched for a moment before moving into the shadows to slip away from him.
When he turned around again she was gone.
He really wanted to be able to do that.
One day, he'd find the right witch... and she'd curse him. Twist him into the darkness that he knew he was. Make him lose that last bit of humanity so that he could be like her... without giving up all of his power.
Because he really wanted to be able to do it all.
