"Just keep thinking, Gem," he says, "if I'd stayed with Clay, if I'd stayed." He doesn't saying anything more than that, nothing more than that vague conjectural "if" but it gets her thinking, not that she hadn't realised before, just that she hadn't let herself dwell on things she can't change. Way she sees it, there's no point wondering about what might've been, just got to deal with the shit you're stuck with. Still, if she'd stayed hidden away, not let Tig see her face that night, he might've kept the sergeant’s patch and had Clay's back that night. There isn't any point to thinking about it but the thought pulls at her, hurtful and destructive, all the same

I'm really sorry. I made myself incredibly sad writing this, too. I WANT TIG TO HAVE ALL THE HAPPY THINGS. You should totally write something happy and fluffy about Tig. I would, if I could even imagine Tig being happy right now. /melodrama

I LOVE this! There's always so much between Gemma and Tig, both of them needing so much more than they want to let on. I just love the image of Gemma petting Tig and letting him be as miserable as he needs to be. So well done!

I'm so pleased you like this! :D I am always so glad Tig & Gemma have each other in the show, though I'm a bit sad they've not had more screentime together this season because, you're right, they definitely both act as support for the other in these really big ways that go largely unspoken. OMG. I am so thrilled. WOW. I hardcore ship these two and I just love the pain and love that shines through this fic. Tig does have a front, a shield, to make everyone think he's okay, but he's not, and Dawn's death, so brutal and agonizing, peels all of that away. I love that Gemma sees it and I love that she HAS to help him. AAAAAAAHG! I am so happy!

:DDD! I am so glad you liked it. Worth going to that dark, miserable place if I can bring some shippy joy back from there. These two do have a really beautiful relationship - Tig would do anything for Gemma and Gemma knows Tig better than just about anyone. There is such tenderness in the way they treat each other - and neither of them show that side of themselves to just anyone because, yeah, they both have fronts they keep firmly in place most of the time. Also, Gemma sitting with Tig that whole time is absolutely canon and that is sort of beautiful.
