I really, really liked this story, Regina. As you say, lots of us have tried to 'fix' TSbyBS, and I have to say that this is one of the best. How wonderful to see your Jim finally doing the right thing at the right time instead of acting like the 'canon Jim' jerk. A very good resolution all round, for both of them. And the PD also!

I loved the cover also, luna. Thank you both very much,

Kate x

Kate,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I always thought Jim was a mass of contradictions--so judgemental and holding a grudge for years on one hand, yet having a drive to do the right thing on the other. I always hoped that if they'd given him the chance in canon, he'd do things differently.

Luna's artwork is gorgeous on so many levels; I was so happy she chose to work with me.

Regina, I loved this story. I think your TSbyBS fix worked well. Jim's and Blair's arguments for why Jim's abilities should be considered legal were logical. As I read, I kept thinking - if a detective is more intelligent, is using that intelligence an unfair advantage? Certainly, no one would question a detective's use of his/her intellect. Isn't what Jim and Blair do, the same thing? They use their intelligence to interpret raw data obtained "naturally."

I especially liked the ending where Jim felt more like a tribal sentinel and took on the role he was meant to play. Great Job!

luna_61 your artwork complimented the story. I liked the little headlines describing how The Road Less Traveled impacted Cascade and I loved how the art showed Jim in front of his territory.

Fran;

I'm so glad this worked for you, especially the ending. I thought it was kind of an unexpected, joyous reward for Jim for doing the right thing. Karma! What you say about using superior intellect is a great point, one I didn't think about, so thank you!

I thought Luna putting in those headlines was so clever. The light colors she used also echoed how things were so much better in Cascade once Jim and Blair were able to use their talents. She did an awesome job.

I read this story quite some time ago and fell in love with it. It was completely different than anything I had read in ages. I loved that. It was an excellent story and one that will be read over and over again. Thanks, Regina.

Luna, the art is beautiful. Great job.

Thanks so much for all of your support throughout the story development and all of your kind comments. Also thanks for volunteering to help with the artwork before Luna stepped in. You are awesome.

I so agree, Luna did a magnificent job. Beautiful and inventive.

Great story, Regina. Far more imaginitive than most TSbyBS fixes.

Great artwork, Luna. Well done both of you

I'm not sure whether you remember our conversation, but you can see if obviously made an impression on me. Thank you for starting that fire--it really made me think things through, which is why this went down the path it did. Yay for TS fans who are more passionate than the original writers and who, as a result, can come up with all the myriad ways to fix things.

I was so happy with Luna's inspired work. A great job, indeed.

I've got a vague memory of it... you certainly made a better job of the idea than I would have done!

As for the original writers - for them, it was a job, probably with a deadline, and with a need for conflict/drama - and Hollywood never seems to realise that the 'young male audience' they're trying to hook just isn't there; the young men are out drinking and trying to get laid; their audience is female, not necessarily wanting soaps, sitcoms, romances, cookery programmes or reality shows, quite happy with action-adventure, but wanting hero and sidekick to work together.

But I also think that having hero and sidekick at odds, and the number of female leads nowadays, is Hollywood's answer to slash.

Yeah, I guess I can't be too hard on the writers--after all they did give us the characters that we love. As to Hollywood, perhaps one more decade and we won't have to camouflage any sexual relations, no matter the combination. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a 30 years later Jim/Blair revisit blessed by TPTB?

Until then, we'll keep on writing. Thanks for the insights you always bring.

This was a great fix- it story. I really liked the way you worked through all the legal and bureaucratic issues logically and sensibly. I loved the idea of Jim and Blair working for the whole Cascade PD and the greater good they do for the city that way. This was nicely picked out in Luna's lovely cover art.

Yeah, the legal and bureaucratic stuff always takes the longest to untangle--frustrating but necessary. I'm glad this all worked for you. It was definitely fun to write, as it's a lot less angsty than trying to fix it after the press conference. I liked that Incacha's prophetic words that Jim was Sentinel of the Great City finally came to fruition. Thank you so much for reading and for writing such a lovely comment.

Luna's artwork couldn't have been more perfect. She really captured it.
