Previous Chapter

The hotel room is modest, something a business man rather than a prince would rent for the weekend, but Siwon’s never been one to be showy just for the sake of being showy. An expensive set of cotton sheets cover the bed, and while they’re nice and soft, Kyuhyun much prefers the silk threads that used to be on Siwon’s bed.

“Would you like something to drink?” Siwon smiles over at Kyuhyun and moves over to the ice bucket where a bottle champagne sits, waiting to be opened.

“Oh, no thank you, your highness.” The pianist holds the bouquet of flowers close to his chest as he stands awkwardly in the middle of the room. “I’m afraid I can’t hold my liquor very well, and I wouldn’t want to leave a disreputable impression.”

Despite the other’s refusal, Siwon still opens the bottle of champagne and pours two glasses. “You sound different. Not as noble as before.”

“I spent about 5 years with the Duke as you know, and he hated the way I talked. Said I didn’t deserve to speak the same as nobility, so I picked up some mannerisms from the servants to please him.” The bitterness in his voice is very evident as he speaks of the event that separated them.

“You are still mad,” Siwon observes sadly.

“How could I not be?”

-

“Kyuhyun, calm down,” his mother commands as the servants stand in line waiting for the return of the young prince.

“Sorry, I’m just happy to see him.” The seventeen year old tries to keep himself from fidgeting as he stares down at the palace’s entrance. After being away at the finest university in the country for a year, Siwon was coming home for the summer. The two lovers had been counting down the days in the occasional letters they sent each other, most of the letters being to Kyuhyun.

His mother takes his hand in hers and squeezes it. “I know he was your… best friend,” she says carefully, “but you have to start treating him like a prince, not a close companion. I don’t want you to get in trouble.”

“I will not get in trouble, mother, I promise,” he replies with a huge smile plastered onto his features. Prince Siwon has just stepped into the front corridor.

He takes the time to greet each of the servants who respond by bowing and kissing his hand. His mother is no different as she takes his hand, but Siwon’s eyes are no longer on her.

“Young master,” Kyuhyun shyly greets. Siwon has obviously been maturing more and more while away at school, and Kyuhyun finds it hard to look him straight in the eye, feeling like he hasn’t changed much in a year.

“Kyuhyun… I suppose you will be bringing me my evening tea?” He’s answered with a quick nod and has to keep his hand from reaching out and running it through Kyuhyun’s thick mane of hair.

The kiss on Siwon’s hand tingles unlike the ones from the other servants. The others aren’t stupid; they all know that for some reason, Kyuhyun is different. Unbeknownst to the young lovers, most of the servants hate the special treatment Kyuhyun seems to always get. When servants made errors, most likely they would be scolded and deprived of their day’s pay. Kyuhyun was usually scolded and sent off to do another job while another covered his original duty.

As it is, there’s no much they can do to change their situation; the king couldn’t be bothered with such petty things. So, all they can do is grumble to each other as their prince exits the corridor and they go back to their duties.

Kyuhyun bursts into the kitchen 10 minutes later, still tying the strings on the pair of pants he changed into. The head of the kitchen frowns at him and sets a tray down on the counter.

“I had to reheat the tea on the stove because you’re late, Kyuhyun,” he complained. “If you keep this up, you’ll be out on the street.”

The teenager grabs an apron from the storage cupboard and haphazardly ties it around his waist. “Siwon is not the type to get mad over his tea being cold or late. I will not get in trouble, Sungmin.”

Sungmin mutters under his breath and pulls Kyuhyun towards him to retie his apron. “I’m serious. If you keep doing this, you’ll fall into the habit, and you’ll be severely punished by your new master.” Kyuhyun escapes the reprimanding slap directed towards his cheek and picks up the tray holding the teapot and china cup.

“I have no plans of having another master besides Siwon.” His smile is bright and optimistic as he slips away from the room as quickly as he came.

A few servants are milling around the halls, gossiping as they clean the household’s many collectables. Kyuhyun briefly smiles at them as he swiftly makes his way to Siwon’s sitting room while trying to balance the porcelain tray. Eyes are watching him warily as he’s already broke a few in the past, which the kitchen workers had to take responsibility for.

Fortunately, he reaches the room accident free, and Siwon’s there waiting, a year older and more handsome, but the same boy Kyuhyun fell in love with. There’s barely enough time for the tray to be set down before Siwon’s connecting their lips in a desperate, longing kiss.

“Siwon,” Kyuhyun breathes out. “I missed you so much.” He plants several wet kisses along whatever skin he can reach with Siwon still wearing a vest and button-up shirt.

“Were my letters not enough?” Siwon smiles at his lover’s eagerness and unbuttons his top button to allow Kyuhyun more access.

“Never enough.” And they're kissing again, more intimately than they have in years. Letters would never be enough for the overwhelming passion the two teenage boys felt for each other. After that night when they were 15, the next year was spent exploring each other’s bodies and simply loving each other.

College had been both a blessing and curse to Siwon. For years, he’d look forward to being an independent adult and studying business like his father, but college met leaving Kyuhyun. Half a year before leaving, Siwon had taken it upon himself to teaching Kyuhyun how to read so they could write to each other. The servant boy was luckily a fast learner and was able to send a few simple letters. Siwon’s letters sometimes got too flowery for Kyuhyun to comprehend, and his mother would have to help him. Of course, she doesn’t approve of the relationship they’re having but like the rest of the servants, she assumes it’s something they will grow out of as they get older.

“I wish you could come back with me,” the prince voices between short kisses.

Kyuhyun’s hands are impatiently trying to figure out the fastenings on Siwon’s vest. “An education does not matter to me. Not if I get to serve you for the rest of my life.”

“But is that what you want? To always be subservient.” Kyuhyun silences him with a sloppy kiss and drags his tongue along the underside of Siwon’s.

“You always talk entirely too much when all I want to do is kiss you senseless, so shut up and respond back.”

The young prince doesn’t need to be reproached again to make him reciprocate his lover’s affections. They somehow stumble over to Siwon’s writing desk to allow some sort of leverage as the air becomes more heated and as the long forgotten tea turns cold.

Impatiently, Siwon bucks his hips against Kyuhyun’s, as they’re much too hot and bothered to properly remove each other’s clothing. The servant boy lets out a strangled moan and arches his back until his chest is flushed against Siwon’s. Their hips are soon moving against each other’s in a rhythm only their ears can hear.

Kyuhyun’s first to come undone just as his thrusts lose the cadence and snap forward of their own accord. Siwon’s not too far behind, releasing all the sexual tension he’s been holding over the past year.

“I love you,” the prince sighs against Kyuhyun’s collar bone. The boy under him repeats the words and adoringly plays with the hair along the back of the other’s neck.

It’s not long until their interrupted and pulled apart by the side of Kyuhyun’s mother looking absolutely livid but mostly scared. He sputters at her in confusion and embarrassment, but he’s not allowed to make any case as he’s dragged out of the room and back to the servant quarters.

His mother explains nothing as to how she knew where he was or why she broke them up so suddenly, but Kyuhyun has no time to ask as he’s suddenly responsible for garden work in addition to his house duties.

The lovers had been looking forward to the three months of summer as a time to reunite and be with each other as freely as when they were younger, but for the first 7 weeks of Siwon’s summer vacation, Kyuhyun spends the days working until he’s too exhausted to seek out the young master.

Siwon, meanwhile, bides his time with reading up on business and spending time with his older brothers. Most of the time, they’re much too busy to be lazing around with their seventeen-year-old brother. His second oldest brother humors him sometimes, but Heechul seems to only enjoy chess as his leisure activity.

Today is one of those days that he just wants nothing more than company, even if it means waiting a full 3 minutes before Heechul makes a move on the board.

“How was school? Have you learned any business strategies yet?” Heechul smiles up at him with a face that says he’s up to something, but of course, that’s how he always looks.

Siwon mindlessly moves his rook into clear territory for his brother to capture. “Not really. There are a few more courses I need to take before I can take business classes.”

Heechul quickly takes the white rook and sets it among his collection of pawns. “I studied law; do you remember?”

“Of course I do.”

“Mhm.”

Siwon figures he should get a little bit more into the game to avoid starting another painful match, but he’s not sure he can turn the game around at this point.

“Did you know that sexual relationships between men are punishable by death?” Siwon freezes. “Both parties do not always die, though. As with most other crimes, it is a matter of who has power to escape punishment. How interesting, right?”

“Heechul…?”

“Servants will tell you anything if you show to be on their side; especially if the wrongdoer is someone they collectively detest.” He smirks at his younger brother, capturing the queen and effectively ending the game.

After Heechul calmly exits the study, Siwon bolts from his chair and wanders around the house looking for Kyuhyun. He intends to ask some of the servants if they know of the young boy’s whereabouts, but whatever conversation they’re holding abruptly stops when he approaches.

Had they always been like this, he wonders. Did he really miss the fact that though Heechul overhead all kinds of the servants’ gossip, they were silent around him?

He finds Kyuhyun trudging in from the gardens as the sun sets over the palace. The servant’s clothes are caked in mud, more than any other who worked outside. Before the servants spots the prince, his eyes are downcast and tired, but as soon as the first syllable of his name leaves Siwon’s lips, he’s smiling brightly and walking faster.

“Are you alright? I have never seen anyone else so untidy after working in the gardens.” He gathers Kyuhyun into his arms, but the teenager pushes him away, afraid of dirtying the expensive clothes.

“Just fine.” He brushes dirt from Siwon’s lapel and forces a smile out. “The gardeners just really like to horseplay sometimes, and I was accidentally pushed into the mulch.”

“Are you being bullied?”

Kyuhyun attempts to distract the prince with a short peck. “They just like to play, I promise.”

Siwon studies him for a few seconds, not really believing him, but deciding to let him go for now. “You should bathe in my room. I know how much you used to like playing with the taps.”

Kyuhyun’s face lights up with excitement, but he’s hesitate to accept the offer. “My mother really prefers that I bathe and sleep in the servants’ quarters. We should get used to our separate duties. Besides, I need to be up in a few hours to go somewhere with her.”

“You will not get in trouble.” He kisses Kyuhyun’s forehead. “I promise.”

The shorter boy is easily pulled into Siwon’s room, and he’s very aware more than a shower will happen when the door is locked behind them and the look in Siwon’s eyes have changed.

They’re silent as they undress each other and their hands map out each other’s warm skin. The encounter at the beginning of the summer was barely enough to satisfy the lust they’d been holding in since Siwon went to school. There’s nothing graceful about the way they fall into the white, claw-footed tub as they’re urgently kissing, not always landing on their target.

Kyuhyun hisses when his back hits the cold surface, and he reaches up to turn on the taps. The water is already turning murky from the dirt on the servant’s skin, but they pay no attention as they continue languidly making out while the tub fills.

Siwon pushes into Kyuhyun at the same time he turns the taps off. Kyuhyun whimpers at the lack of preparation they’re unaware he needs and from the sensation of being filled after more than a year.

“I love you so much,” the prince expresses as he waits for Kyuhyun to adjust. His lover nods and leans up for a hasty kiss.

“Please…” Kyuhyun pants, moving his hips down into Siwon’s. Siwon complies and slides out a bit only to slam back in. The servant boy is moaning and clawing at the older’s back, his hair sticking to his forehead from a combination of sweat and bathwater.

With how oversensitive they are, it’s no surprise that they don’t last long and Kyuhyun soon releases into the water, and Siwon releases into Kyuhyun.

The aftermath is blissful and they lie in the warm water holding onto each other. “We should take a proper bath,” Kyuhyun murmurs after a few minutes. Siwon hums in agreement and pulls the drain, so they can actually bathe.

After the bath, they both dress in clothes from Siwon’s closet and slip under the silk sheets in the prince’s bedroom. Kyuhyun does nothing to hide how thrilled he is to sleep in the bed again and constantly shifts around until Siwon pulls him close and convinces him to go to sleep with innocent kisses.

Siwon wakes up to an empty bed, but he’s not too surprised because he’s known to sleep until late morning. He takes his time getting out of bed to just think about the previous night’s events and the possibility of being close with Kyuhyun again. He’s even in a good enough mood to lose several rounds of chess against Heechul.

Saturday mornings are always slow and relaxed in the palace, so Siwon thinks nothing of the lack of servants in the hall. He only hopes there are people in the kitchen so he can enjoy a light brunch. On the way to the kitchen, he comes across the door to his father’s throne room. Half the servant staff are pressed against the doors, trying to pick up the conversation from inside the chamber. They don’t need to try so hard though because the discussion inside can be heard from where Siwon is standing.

“Please, my lord… he’s my only son. Send both of us or just me, but I can’t bear having him sent so far away. Please… I beg you.” The crying voice holds Siwon’s attention from its familiarity. It’s not a voice he hears very often, but he swears it’s the voice of someone close…

“I know how hard it must be for you, but I must send him away after what he’s been accused of. If he were not your son, he would most certainly be sent to the courts to be tried for- …for this heinous crime and put to death.”

“Kyuhyun would never break such an important law. He’s innocent… please, let him stay, my lord, and I promise to keep him away from the young master so no one will suspect a thing.”

“As it is, servants have been reporting to me how close the two are, and I don’t think this is something easily solved. Even my other son, Heechul has t- Siwon, who told you it was alright to enter?” Siwon looks like a madman straight out of an asylum as he stands in the entrance to the room, surrounded by the servants who dare to keep watching the exchange.

The king is seated upon his throne, wearing his traditional robe, but not bothering with the extravagant headpiece as the matter wasn’t of national importance. Kyuhyun’s mother, aged but still beautiful, kneels in front of the throne, her head almost resting against the floor from how low she’s bowing. Though the whole scene is heart-breaking, nothing throws Siwon off more than the sight of Kyuhyun kneeling beside her with his hands bound and light bruises adorning his arms. From the way Kyuhyun’s head is turned, he can see the perfect imprint of a hand, the assault obviously wearing a heavy ring. He seethes at the silver jewelry on his father’s hand.

“What’s going on here?” he asks evenly, knowing that franticness was not a way to convince his father to change his mind.

“Nothing of your concern,” his father retorts.

“Siwon…” the occupants of the room turn their heads to look at the sobbing boy on the ground who’s pleading for his lover to save him. His mother shushes him and forces him to bow to the king.

“Perhaps you can be of help to me, son.” The king rises from his seat and takes a few menacing steps towards the shuddering boy. “Can you prove or disprove the rumors that you two are romantically involved?”

Siwon gapes at his father. “I-I love..” His mind brings up the conversation he had with his brother just the day before. Coming out with their relationship felt like the noble thing to do, but what would happen to Kyuhyun if he did? Surely, the servant boy would be put to death. “He is just a childhood friend,” he decides to go with. “Nothing more.”

The king smiles. “Than you should have little objection to him being sent elsewhere since you will be in school anyhow.”

“But-“

“But what? Are you lying? A prince should have no attachments to someone so low unless you do hold romantic feelings towards him.” Siwon is silent. “Good boy,” he smiles. Kyuhyun’s mother is shaking as the king helps her stand and gives her a kiss that she has no option to refuse. “I will try to arrange a trip to see him as often as possible, if the duke allows.” She gives him an unconvincing nod, but her feelings really have no part in his decision.

“Don’t let them take me,” Kyuhyun begs as palace guards haul him out of the throne room. “Siwon,” he sobs. “Help me!” The guards easily put a halt to his struggling and push him towards the entrance of the palace where a car has been waiting most of the morning to take him to his new home. “Siwon! Please!”

He’s screaming every bit of the way to the awaiting car, but Siwon’s feet are rooted to the ground. The king advances towards his son and throws a comforting arm around his shoulders.

“Do not worry, son. There are plenty of young, beautiful princesses who are eager to meet you.” Siwon nods and silently crouches down next to Kyuhyun’s mother, who is again weeping on the floor.

-

Kyuhyun holds the glass of champagne in his hand and watches the liquid swirl with the movement of his wrist. “What business brings you here to see me, your highness?”

“Stop being so formal with me, Kyuhyun. You know how much I hate being revered like this. I have done nothing to deserve such prestige.” The prince sits on the end of the bed and quickly downs his glass, preparing for a long night of explaining himself.

“But you’re so much better than me, your highness. I’m just a lowly servant, once accused of sodomy. Really, it doesn’t take much to be beter than me.” Siwon decides he can’t listen to the pianist demean his success and pulls Kyuhyun to sit next to him on the bed.

“Remember when we put a toad in Chilhyun’s shoes?” He begins quietly. “I was sure Heechul was going to tattle on us, but he actually watched with us as Chilhyun discovered it.”

Kyuhyun cracks a small smile as he fondly thinks of the memory. “His scream sounded exactly like a girl’s. He was so mad that he started to cry a bit.” He lets out a short laugh, but quickly regains his composure and scoots away from Siwon. “Maybe I should leave for the night. I have another performance tomorrow afternoon, so…”

He makes his way to stand, but Siwon holds him in place. “At least drink your glass to be polite.”

“One glass.” Kyuhyun states, hesitantly.

“Just one.”

But three glasses of champagne later, Kyuhyun is red in the face and clinging onto Siwon’s sleeve as the young prince leaves marks down his bare chest. Siwon is nowhere as drunk as his company but is lost in the feeling of being like this with Kyuhyun after too many years of being apart.

Kyuhyun looks beautiful with his hair partly sprawled out on the down pillow. His skin has a few scars from stories Siwon hopes to hear from him, and there’s no trace of the bruised boy who was dragged out of his home 11 years ago.

“Stop,” Kyuhyun whispers. And if the prince hadn’t been biting and sucking at the pianist’s neck, he probably wouldn’t have heard it. “We can’t… I just… you let them take me, and-“ Pitiful sobbing cuts off his sentence, and he turns away from Siwon to curl into himself. All of Siwon’s attempts to comfort him are brushed off as the younger rolls away to the opposite side of the bed.

This is how their first night together ends.
