Dr. Lee Jungyeop specialized in unstable cases at the Woollim Hospital for Magical Malady, and considered the twins his only salvageable subjects. His other patients, long removed to the infinite ward (named for the patients’ length of stay), included a phoenix nicknamed Tinderella (addicted to self-combustion), and a frog-prince who had bitten off his princess’s lips.
He knocked before entering their room. As always, he braced himself; according to the nurses, the twins spent most of their time having sex with each other, but Jungyeop had never caught them in coitus. He opened the door and entered. The twins were sitting on the floor, piecing together a rug-sized picture puzzle.
“Good morning,” Jungyeop said.
“Hello, Slow White,” Daeryong mumbled. Soryong did not respond.
Jungyeop noted it on his pad. The twins liked to use nicknames; he himself was named for his white coat and his, ah, long-suffering patience. He had inquired as to the origins of the twins’ self-appointed nickname-Tasty-but had only received a giggle and “because sandwiches are tasty” from his blushing nurse.
“Very good,” Jungyeop said, and pulled out his stethoscope. “Come, Daeryong. Would you take a deep breath for me?”
