A Simple Tune; Minhyun/Baekho

Minhyun would never bang on the keys; instead, he would press them gently.

That was the difference between the two of them.

Before they had met, Baekho always wanted to be able to play the piano. He imagined it would be fun to enjoy a symphony created solely by him, to play something long and complicated that would have his fingers flying over the ebony and ivory with grandeur.

But Minhyun's fingers rarely flew. He always began by playing a single note and allowing its sound to disappear on its own. Then he would press two at the same time, then three or four. Then he would truly begin to play, as if each interval was a melody in itself, as if he was giving each chord a time to shine before he gently pushed the next one into the spotlight.

Then before Baekho knew it, Minhyun would lift his hands from the instrument, and the song would be over.

And he would think that he no longer wished to learn. He merely wanted to listen, over and over again.
