CLARIFICATION

Ok, I would like to clarify since I have gotten lots of feedback and questions regarding yesterday's post.

I am seeking out a counselor not so I can determine whither or not Lane has ADHD but to help me understand why his behavior is what it is. I would rather do this now instead of in like 4 years.

His may behavior may be normal for a 3 year old,

I don't know about others, but I didn't need any clarification. I understand that you're just trying to do the best you can. I think a lot of the comments--including mine--were intended to convey the sense that you already are doing pretty damn good.

Don't take our "advice" too seriously since you're there with Lane and I'm guessing most of us are not. I've never read anything you've written and thought, "she's going to screw that little boy up but bad" so you're on track. You're obviously a conscientious parent, I think folks here just want to give you a little reassurance.

Thanks... I had a couple comments in persona and privately that made me think that maybe I made it seem like I was blowing things out of proportion so I wanted to be sure I was making myself clear

I can definitely understand your fears. I do think you're handling things well and taking appropriate action

One more thing on this, you may want to have him checked out for other medical--non-behavioral, non-psychological--problems. I know someone whose son went through a period of some extreme, unexplained acting out when around four years old.

Eventually he was diagnosed with athsma and started using an inhalor. Once the athsma got better, the acting out stopped completely. The bottom line was he was simply feeling a lot of discomfort and pain and had no other way of coping with it or verbalizing exactly what was wrong with him.
