With the fall of night came a sudden downpour and they urged their steeds to the nearest tree for shelter.
After drying off their horses, Roger went to scout the area and came back to find a dozed-off Jeanne curled up at the base of the wizened oak tree. He gave a little sigh and sat down next to her, if with a bit of respectable hesitation.
Unexpectedly, she leaned her head on his shoulder and he jumped lightly.
Roger stared at her sleeping face, listening to the hush of rain.
He fell asleep with a smile on his face.
