Carsten's mum is brilliant, I love how she got everything out of him and didn't go mad as most mothers would. The dynamic between them was good and realistic - I always thought you made her sound an intriguing character who deserved her own air-space.

Thanks, she was fun to write. I figured Carsten's mom would be a decent sort of person, since he's such a nice boy. And FWIW I talked to a Swedish penpal in the past about parenting styles, etc. -- things are just looser over there in a lot of ways. My mom would have grounded me forever.

I love Swedish culture around parenting. Sometimes I think that if I ever want to raise kids with another person, I'm going to have to move to Sweden!

Carsten's one lucky kid - he's got a rich vampire sugar-daddy buying him expensive electronics and clothes, all in exchange for a little blood and sex now and then... Oh, and the occasional kinky shenanigans. :)

After I get through the second-hand embarrassment and guilt, I can't help but think that Carsten is pretty fortunate, considering. I think his mom is letting him off easy.

You know ... the kids's seventeen. And I had a series of conversations with a Swedish penpal awhile ago, when I was first writing this fic, about how much more casual the parenting is in some ways -- mixed-gender sleepovers, drinking, etc. So it was an interesting mind-game for me, trying to decide where Carsten's mom would come down on this issue. In theory, it's all okay, but who wants their teenage son hooking up with a vampire, you know?

Part II has a nice dose of embarrassment as well. And btw I'll be shipping it off to you for comments and a casual beta...
