Good sayings

My last illustration assignment is to pick a quote, song lyric, part of a poem, saying, etc. and do an illustration to accompany it. I'm still considering options, but these are the ones on the list for consideration. Pick the ones you like, or add one of your own. :)

(Translations for the Spanish ones appear below.)

I also greatly like, "The urge to destroy is also a creative urge ~~Mikhail Bakunin"

I like that one. Also, Bakunin was a strong influence on Prada (the first of the translated ones) politically.

Growing up, we had a big pond next to our house -- really, behind the house, sheltered on three sides by huge pines and on the fourth side by the house.

In the early spring, the ice on the pond would begin to thaw, and I would always go and play games with it. I'd take the row boat and pretend I was an ice breaker in the frozen north. Or I'd take some old coax cable that we had and tie a brick to it and toss it as far as I could out onto the ice, and then use the cable to cut it. Once I had it in chunks, I'd try to pull them apart by using a lighter brick and careful skill with the cable.

It was very much that I was destroying the ice -- but it was also a HUGELY creative time for me. My imagination knew no bounds.

My all time favorite lyric is from Synchronicity II - "We had to shout above the din of our Rice Krispies."

"Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes." form the same song is good too.

And there's the always classic "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here". It's much cooler in the original Italian from Dante's Inferno.

Arma virumque cano: I sing of arms and a man. From the Aeneid, where Aeneas (Bush?) carries his father through the streets of his homeland, hilarity does not ensue. Unless we are tired yet of comparing doomed societies of the past to our current situation ;-P.
