Rather than figure drawing, today I did a 2 hour life drawing of a tree in the common area beyond our back yard. The tree assignment is for illustration class. Our model didn't show this week, so one of the people who'd come to draw ended up being the model. I'm happy with it because I actually managed to get a good likeness.

I think I'm about done with this. The possible exception is his left eye. I'm having trouble getting that right. In the previous versions it's all been too low. I've moved it up now, and it's in the right position, but it may need to be lengthened a little bit still ( Read more... )

This is a practice for lighting, rendering, cross-hatching, etc. I found a picture of a fossil skull and drew an outline version of it. There's a line everywhere there was a clear change in value (brightness), and after scanning it in I turned the whole thing blue and printed it out.
