Gotta love the way people plan things. We must be well-rounded individuals, after all. Look at me, a college graduate, fluent in Spanish and what-not junk, working a retail job that requires nothing of the sort.
You'll get to do what you want soon. Just gotta muddle through the rest.

As the type of artist that I am: I'm jealous!

I think you need to be there doing all these things, so that you can understand; not only what the other docs are doing hands on, but MOST IMPORTANTLY so you can connect to your patients. They might be going through all these things, so now you have the perspective of both patient and doctor. You might be treating a doctor who is having issues because he killed someone, not malpractice, but just because they were beyond his help. You will know what's it's like to be in his position, and therefore, be better able to help him. You will have a better understanding of what any female, young to old, go through at the OBGYN.

Being well rounded is great, and essential, even if you feel it's a waste of time, but don't think of this being well rounding training, think of this as experience to better grasp what others are doing on a personal level, with all the emotions and sensations that they are going through.

you'll be better at what you do because of it

Maybe if you started calling it psychiatrist instead of psych doctor they'll let you specialize ;)
