I think it depends on what you're making and how many hours you think it'll take you. For one hour of work, you are already charging your friend $16 + 2 x material. That's going to get really expensive, really fast. I would say you want a set fee- like $20 for a scarf or $40 for a sweater or something. Either that, or not do retail- just charge material + labor.

Even if it was made by you, I wouldn't really be willing to pay more than $20 for a scarf, you know?

Your pricing scheme is accurate, but it needs to be balanced with your experience. Can you do a job as quickly as a knitting professional? If not, you might need to look at set fees, or actually reducing your hourly rate ( ... )
