So the merry_fates is this community that post discussions and some fawesome short fiction, and sometimes watcher prompts. The latest one was a dictionary definition, so here's my story, which is sort of longer than I expected it to be. *shrug* Hey, it's just *under* 2,000 words. If only just barely.

Very nice! I love the details you pepper in - the reflecting soda machines, frex. And the finger bones trapping the spirit is way cool. Great use of the definitions - I really enjoyed reading this. Thanks!

Thanks!
The soda machines are actually something stolen from my high school, because it's always struck me as really wierd that you can, in fact, drive past the school in the middle of the night and see the Coke logo from the cafeteria. Waste of power, and probably really annoying if you live across the street.

lol. No joke! I guess they want to keep the drinks cool. Who needs to conserve energy in the face of keeping the soda icy cold?

Heaven forbid we be subjected to warm soda. *faints*

And there's about ten different soda machines throughout a relatively small, one-story school. It's kind of ridiculous. Though there's no end of hilarity when kids, like, ask to go to the bathroom and come back with sodas for themselves and all their friends.

Thanks!

Not sure what was with the fingerbones, but I like them. Morbid little details are the most fun ones. :D

I enjoyed this. It ...
"inspires, animates, pervades thought, feeling, and action."
Very clever. It would've made my head hurt. Well done, Simon.
