THAT'S X A B Y!

picked up Chrono Trigger DS today, preordered it a while ago. OH DEAR GOD! it's awesome.

Only a few things i dun like:
1. changed every item name.
2. 'updated' the story text.
3. TOOK AWAY FROG/GLENN'S SHAKESPEARIAN ACCENT!

other than that, all of the improvements are wonderful!

...changed every item name? Like, how?

FORSOOTH! MODIFYING FROG'S TRUE FORM OF SPEECH IS A GRIEVANCE MOST FOUL!

Also, nothing will ever beat the PSX port of Chrono Trigger.

Game: Triangle, Square, X, Circle! That's XABY!
Me: What.

Revives are now Athenian Water.
Tonics are now Potions.
Tabs are now.... Capsules.
Heals are now Panaceas.
majority of the armor and weapons are now 2-3 words. Bronze sword, Zanmato, etc.

Abilities too~
Provoke is... Allure...
Spincut is Cleave.
Slash is Wind Slash.
so on so forth.

it's different, but still the same.
A new 'arena' mode where you train and fight monsters. (started that, it's decent, but odd...)
a few new areas and dungeons, but only unlockable after late storyline events or New Game+
hints and rumors of new ultimate weapons and accessories, as well as... a new extra final boss and ending? *cues theremin music*

Ooh, theremin. So creepy, yet so awesome.

So, mostly tiny aesthetic things, then. I wonder what they renamed Magus's stuff to... or the triple techs. :)

I still want to try it just because I never got to see the anime cut scenes in the PSX version because I never had the patience to sit down and play Chrono Trigger on a console, though I occasionally would work through it on an emulator while doing something else in the background on my laptop.

I know almost nothing has changed and I'm getting kind of irritated with SquareEnix for pulling in all this money by just rereleasing their old games, but still, for a game that affected my childhood so much, I need to play through it again.

the console wersion, while having bonuses, lagged too often to really 'play' DS however works quickly like the SNES cartridge.

Cut scenes, while a little far apart at times, were pretty good.
