I HAVE A PUPPY!!!

He's an adorable little mix that I adopted from the Denver Dumb Friend's League. We believe he's a rot-shepherd mix. He's three months old and the most adorable little bundle of biscuit-loving ears and tail I've ever seen.

On April 11th, a kind-hearted gentleman was taking out his garbage and when he opened up the dumpster lid he ( Read more... )

We're pretty sure Oscar is two to three months old. He weighs around 13 pounds at this point and is about the size of a really large cat. He's really smart, but I've never house trained a puppy before. Not to mention, my sister is a little worried that he may try to bite the cats because he's a rot-shepherd. My friend Matt also seemed to feel like that was an agressive breed to have (as the only dog I've ever had before was a full grown lab). I'm not really sure if that's the case, but I don't want to take any chances. So, any tips on house training, watching for health risks and even getting him used to other animals (ie respecting my kitties) would be awesome. Actually, anything you could tell me would be awesome. You're my expert, here.

Well, I can tell you for a good puppy with good behavior, you should socialize him properly. Allow him to be with the cats and respect them, and he shouldn't try to bite them. It's a my that some breeds are more aggressive; as they say, "hate the deed, not the breed." Pitbulls can be ferocious fighters if trained to be, but many, many vets will tell you so can chihuahuas. I've also known sweet, sweet pitbulls that wouldn't hurt a fly. It's really how people let them act that dictates what they become. So tell your friend Matt to shove it ( ... )

That's awesome! I've been doing research but you brought up a LOT of stuff I just didn't know. For instance, I had no idea about that Hartz stuff. Do you think that K9 Advantix is a good brand?
Oscar is having surgery today, so they told me I can't really be taking him outside for a while but do you think, after he rests, I can take him into the backyard and let him tromp around a bit?
