I found probably 95% of this very bland. The unfortunate truth of this show is that it is trying to hit a certain level of audience relatability (PG bordering on PG-13, I think), and hence it has one foot in Disney and one foot in semi-gritty realism. So even though it is meant as a serious show overall, just the fact that it is trying to make Disney cartoons live-action is enough to make it appear ridiculous at times. (Case in point: Dreamy. Also every episode with Jiminy Cricket ever

2. Almost every other scene involving Jefferson. He was seriously like Brad Pitt in IWTV except without the angst and without Lestat to shake things up. I'm sure having a typical OUAT child actor alongside him didn't help, but I really could not have cared less about him for most of the episode, and once the purple fog teleporting tornado hat showed up I was going, ".......what is this." Although I like the idea of being able to travel between worlds (which is the whole point of Wonderland! Makes me wonder where all those other doors go--there had to be at least ten of them!) (PS: this is sooooo like Fables except it didn't have doors), there was no explanation for why he had the magic hat, how the queen learned about it/him, and wasn't there an implication that he used to work for her? I don't get it. Furthermore, I've seen a handful of interpretations of the Hatter and this one was just not mad at all. He was barely a hat-tip (HAHA) to the original character, who was seriously mad. Possibly due to mercury poisoning. Psychotic, sure

All that said, the idea of multiple worlds fascinates me! The idea of multiple kingdoms also fascinates me! I approve. I just disapprove of the world-traveling hat. It necessitates such stupidity as, "It's the hat's rule, not mine

I…actually found this episode moderately disappointing? It reminded me of Revenge of the Sith. Where we are supposed to be convinced that something (Regina’s life/love, the Jedi/Republic) fell apart in the space of, like, a day, when it makes so much more sense for it to degrade over a long period of time

5. COSSSSSSSSSSTUMEEEESSSS. Although the styles/centuries were all over the place, I loved Regina’s turquoise riding jacket and her wedding dress! That crazy cloak thing she wore after being proposed to was ridiculous; it didn’t even cover her arms! What purpose did it even have
( ... )
Regina: Um.... so you don't think she may have been completely traumatized by seeing her boyfriend murdered in front of her by her mother? It wasn't a 'failed teenage romance'. It was her mother forcibly destroying the thing she loved and what she believed was her chance for freedom. She was also completely trapped by her evil abusive stage mother, and in a probably PTSD-state couldn't focus her anger on her mother because she didn't have the ability to fight her. I mean, did you just miss the fact that Daniel was murdered

Apparently there was no new episode this week, POO. So since we can't agree about Regina and stuff like Dr. Whale's fairytale character and Rumple's plan needs more material to speculate on, and because I am a little bit bored and wanted to have a new episode to watch, I'm gonna open the door on August since the speculation about him drives me nuts

So, I guess basically I'm assuming that he's a fairytale character that escaped the curse in some way, but he could also be a real-world person who knows things somehow, or a character from a different world who was able to travel here separately from the curse, or something similar.
And... that's all I got right now. I mean, there are about a million other literary and fairytale characters he could be based on, but so far this show has not had the most surprising of twists, and online speculation has usually predicted things with fair accuracy even without spoilers saying as much. (This show, in general, has been much better about actually keeping plots secret than Glee has been lately. It's just that the fans have been very good at making correct speculation based on the little that is revealed. All this has not been based on any spoilers; they won't spoil the identity of Mr. Mysterious.) So I am kinda expecting that he will turn out to be one of the two. Although I could be wrong.
I admit I don't have much to say on this subject, for three reasons: 1) August doesn't interest me that much because the only interesting thing he's done so far is steal and edit/mess with/make copies of Henry's book; 2) there's not enough evidence for even logical speculation, just wild speculation; 3) there are two plots from Fables and Jack of Fables that are kind of similar to what you're pitching and also to the vibe August is kind of giving out, and I can't think of anything but them. ):
Really, the only proof we have of anything regarding August is that he appears to know Emma (or thinks he knows Emma) in some way, which could mean any number of things, and that he has a crazy interest in Henry's book, which to me is a pretty insane jump and it's yet unproven whether he means good or ill with it (I assumed ill, but he seems pretty chill lately, so).
I already expressed my misgivings about the Pinocchio plot/characters. Fables made it so insanely badass that I can't wrap my brain around anything else. Which I guess is kind of
