Queen of Hearts

...also consider this the place to put thoughts and spec on the other episodes between Tallahasse and Queen of Hearts: Child of the Moon, and Into the Deep. This is all stuff I wrote a few days ago; currently my brain is all about Stargate, but if I don't post it now I never will! So.

It has occurred to me that I never responded to your last set of thoughts. I may or may not respond to them; I have lots of thoughtful things to say about this set of thoughts! (Of course, you are only about Stargate right now, D ( ... )

5. Unfortunately, this show (and most shows, alas) tends to lack in the awesomeness. When I think of awesomeness, I always think of season one Noah Bennet, although sometimes Rumple brings it home too. (Oh! And Mulan. And Aurora. And Snow. And always Red. And Belle’s entire existence is awesomeness.) So, to break it down by character here ( ... )

Aurora: A random surprise: I LOVE HER. I have this personal pet peeve about the way princesses and ladies are portrayed in fantasy. It’s true to some degree that they sat around and sewed all day while cranking out babies (especially depending on what time period we’re talking about), but I listened to this Colonial Williamsburg podcast once about the woman who portrayed Mrs. Randolph and she said something that’s always stuck with me, which is that a true lady works hard all day but never shows it. (Though it occurs to me that is kind of the American slant on being a lady.) Take away from that: a lady/head of a large household is expected to run the household and do a thousand tasks depending on what her husband does, and do it all while looking fantastic and composed. As of late I’ve adopted the idea for fantasy (which I have yet to put into action) that a true lady should be good at everything she does and make it look effortless. I can see how that could get into Mary Sueism (the trick, I think, is character flaws), but in my head ( ... )

6. Lol. Much like with Hook finally facing off with Rumple, I am hoping that when (if?) Aurora and Phillip are ever reunited, at the very least after so many adventures on her own, Aurora will find him unsatisfactory and decide to just be awesome on her own. (I initially signed off on Mulan/Aurora on account of it’s ABC, but their relationship/friendship is being pushed really hard. It’s the only positive female/female relationship on the show that’s not Snow&Emma but has gotten nearly as much screentime this season ( ... )

In regards to the rest of it, I’m not sure how I feel about the Neal-is-Bae thing. I was all on board until Neal met August, and then Neal seemed so clueless that it seemed highly unlikely. But I vehemently said that August could not possibly be Pinocchio, so what do I know? I have to say I was a little disappointed when you pointed out that Neal was the subway man-the subway man seemed like a loser, kind of like the male version of Mary Margaret except less adorable-like he keeps trying things but has the worst luck all the time. I found that really appealing. Neal is obviously not that character I built in my head from that ten-second scene. So now I don’t know how to feel.

I reread your Tallahassee thoughts and really had nothing to say. I am all thought out from doing this one. (Actually, I have just noticed that I have not done much commenting on your posts this season. I think that is because for most of this season I was so busy? Also I guess this isn’t much of a discussion show for me.)

I figure my whole problem with Hook is that I wanted to be interested in him, and then I just took massive offense at the way they did him wrong and started pushing him as a love interest for Emma. Part of me figures I should have known better, because this show is not the highest of quality, but, like you said, they've never gotten a character so wrong before. Maybe they just wanted to have a pirate ( ... )

I have more thoughts, but I am sleepy, and will write them tomorrow. I just had this main one tonight:

I think the reason why I keep wanting to ship Hook/Cora is because Cora would obviously have complete control over him and it would be awesome. Like, he's such a dick and this control-crazy lady is just like, "So. You're going to be my lover now," and he's like, "Okay!" and he hasn't been great with the females so far, I think if he just completely caved to one it would be hilarious/interesting/awesome. (Possibly why I keep saying I want him to fall hard for Emma.)

It's hard to maintain villains who are around constantly and have personal relationships with non-villains. At least they didn't try to keep Regina scary while simultaneously powering her up and powering down the heroes ( ... )
