I mean, the main, fairly obvious problem with Hook is that he’s not a well-developed character. When has he ever said he liked anything aside maybe from Milha? He doesn’t have ANY OPINIONS or THOUGHTS. He just continually exists and periodically mutters things about killing Rumplestiltskin ( ... )

I am hesitant to comment on the topic of Rumple/Belle adorableness…I think she definitely serves mostly as a part of his arc, as a means of his reparation. But she’s also her own character that they have given decent screen time to. Obviously they have changed each other (which is awesome, and more than I can say about Snow and Charming), he into a softer, more forgiving man (or at least made him aware that he can be that person), and she into a stronger, braver woman. Like I said, her place in his life serves to throw wrenches into his arc-I don’t see her dying, but it could even show just how human he’s let himself become. We’ve never seen him, for example, fretting over an injured loved one (maybe Milha? I don’t remember) or trying to save someone. He’s always existed within his own world and power. So I think it will be interesting to see how he reacts and whether he changes, and if so, which way he changes ( ... )

I actually discovered that Hook works best when you think of him as a straight-up villain. He's the kind of villain who is Evil McTreacherouspants and hits on the heroine. His awfulness doesn't bother me when I am not assuming they're trying to make us like him. He has a mildly sympathetic/tragic past and that's it. He's not a sympathetic character, he's focused entirely on revenge and doesn't give a crap about anything else except possibly getting laid. It's the internet Hook fangirls who are wrong ( ... )
