I love articles that show how how damaging hereditary monarchy is... and how irrelevant to what the monarchs (sultans) thought they were doing.

If I was a schemer against the Sultan, I would have one brave soul sit at a table and drink and surround the entire area with heavily weaponized warriors so that when the Sultan unveiled his sword, fifty other swords would take the bastard down. And that would be called a Turkish Delight.
