Need a little help...

Some of you who have recently re-read Inner Demons, do you recall if I ever named Dolohov's "signature purple curse?" I know I've thought about it, but can't remember if I ever got around to it and can't find all of the mentions of it without spending half the day searching (when I'd rather be writing). If you remember seeing it, can you point me ( Read more... )

I do not recall you having ever named it. I reread it a couple weeks ago!

I agree with liebedance, I don't recall you ever naming it other than referring to it as his signature purple spell.

I'm really bad with naming things but how about looking for what is the Latin term for internal organs or something like that.

You've made me so happy knowing that chapter 55 will soon be posted maybe...

I cannot recall a name for Dolohov's curse in your previous chapters. I hope this give you some kind of help. In the meantime, I did a little bit of research for the possible name and I came with viscus debello, which is Latin for vanquish of internal organs. Have a great time in your research, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Viscus Debello... Not a bad suggestion. I'll have to think about that one. Thanks!

The dreaded purple curse. renaugh22 July 22 2012, 04:24:23 UTC

I am fairly certain you never gave it a name and JKR didn't either. I Googled it 50 ways from Sunday and got zero results though it is mentioned a lot.

Tomorrow is Sunday and its too damn hot in Florida to work outside so I will peruse Inner Demons for the umteenth time just to make certain.

I'll ask Dr. Stevens who has the Classical Languanges Chair for a proper Latin name--If you would so like? I wont see him untill Wednesday evening next. He is even an older fuddy duddy then me and he relishes sloshing around in Latin and Greek gibberish.

Harry has the ultimate weapon at his disposel.
THE ELDER WAND.. Couple of shots with that and old Rotyourcrotchoff will end up head first and knee deep in the far reaches of S-s-s-s-s-s-s-iberia.

LOL! Feel free to ask Dr. Stevens, if you like. I'm sure he'll be amused.

No, Harry wouldn't use the Elder Wand. What if Dolohov defeated him and won the wand? Harry would never take such a chance. Besides, he's quite happy with his holly and phoenix feather wand -- even used the Elder Wand to repair it. So I think he'll leave the EW in Dumbledore's care.

Thanks for your help.

MS. Serendipity

PURPURA VISCERA FERRUM-Purple Gut Punch
PURPURA STOMACHUM FERRUM-Purple Stomach Punch

I sort of took the easy way and just punched expressions into an on line English/Latin translator.

I suppose we could go to Rotyourcrotchoff's natve Russian but that would need to be in Cyrillic and I dont have that on my key board.

NO FAIR--NO FAIR AT ALL . You have total control of what Harry will think, and do,etc. But truthfully, I have zero problem with that. Your efforts have been superlative.
But now I am concerned! Did you "Telegraph your punch"? Is Purpura Stomachum Ferrum going to really hurt somebody?

Primary rule of engagement-
"Dont bring a knife to a gun fight."
"If he brings a gun, you bring a bigger one.
If he brings two guns then you bring four."

Again I applaud your writing skills. Such a joy to read. Phrazing, vocabulary, word selection, syntax.
You do have a gift.
Thank you again,
